They might just draft a vertical decoy in Franklin or a vertical decoy in Worthy who can also be a Nagy gadget slot.

Then the offense will have more breathing room for our 20 sideways passes a game.

However,

Compare the first half of the season to the second half. There's a significant difference in production. And he didn't look like himself the first couple months. I mean, let's just be honest about it: Travis is 35. He isn't going to play like he's 25 ever again.
Oh, he definitely wasn't dominant like he has been, but at his age and productivity, he's still pretty damned elite.

No other third option receiving players have accumulated big counting stats because they just don’t earn them. Who out there was not getting targeted that should have? Watkins was the closest, and probably would have had at least 900-1000 yards but he played 10, 14, and 10 games with numerous of those games him probably playing half the game.

Kelce will undoubtedly have his smallest target share since 2015 when he had 103. Of the three I would expect Rice to lead the way but I can see Brown right there with him. He would be taking looks from multiple players from last season. Another factor is our RB passing game has tailed off and I don’t see that taking a big jump this season.

Also if the offense actually improves with him as we would hope, everyone will get more opportunities as we stay on the field more.

Without Kelce being dominant this offense does not work.

Yeah, it's a reason to be upgrading other receiving options. Kelce has been good enough, recently enough though that it was pretty clear the 49ers main focus was on stopping him. And they failed.

Irv Smith is only 25 and runs a 4.6. He’s a veteran that’s been a TE2 for years and has proven he can put up 5 TD’s on 30 receptions if need be.

You don’t think that’s a massive upgrade from Blake Bell or the Jody Fortson 14 career reception experiment?

That’s only the start. More moves are coming

Decided to look beyond the Mahomes era, and it's no different in Andy's time here.

The 3rd option is essentially a 50-70 target guy for 500-600 yards.

Starting with 2018:

55/519 (Watkins)
62/554 (Wilson)
76/536 (Maclin, Conley almost identical)
57/451 (Wilson)
59/291 (Charles)
71/596 (Avery)

I might look at the Eagles when I get out of this meeting.

A move like that is fine, what I'm saying is more about that the offense doesn't have targets for someone.

In reality it makes a lot of sense for them to move on, they used a 1 on Johnston the likely best player at their pick will be Nabers, moving on from both WR's saves them a ton of money.
