Been avoiding it for over a month with On Demand... The Hunt

“$20 for a rental?! Get fucked!”

But got bored enough to pull the trigger tonight, 34 minutes in right now and the controversy was blown waaay out of proportion

The good guys are the so called deplorables, it’s total camp and not serious at all... enjoying it so far, but still... $20? get bent

Not a perfect movie and one of the worst timed movies in history, . . . . But a lot more fun than I expected.

It's a fine-line between ham-fisted and black humor and this one walked it. The jokes were mostly funny if you remembered to laugh. But if you forget to laugh, it's easy to get caught in 'hey!wait!! not fair!!' then you take a breath and chuckle. The unfairness of the jokes was part of the joke, which will probably only make sense when you've experienced it firsthand. And it was sporadically inventive enough, with both the commentary and the gore, to keep things bopping along without getting too mired down.

If you find yourself in a mood to dissect things and find meaning, it's probably not the right time for you to watch it, because you can drive yourself a bit mental taking it the least bit serious. But if you're in the mood for dark humor, it delivers surprisingly effectively, . . . at least for the 90-minute runtime.

I thought it was ok, Betty Gilpin was pretty good with her comic relief though.

Watch this tonight and good summary.

Far from a new movie, but this is a great essay on what I've long held as the Continential Divide between old Hollywood and Modern Hollywood.

I'm, like, 50-60% more likely to like a movie made after B&C, compared to before, even among the 'classics.'

Fuckin' Apatow, he's such a beta asshole, but he has an ear for story and a knack for casting.

If you told me 'Pete Davidson playing an orphan son of a firefighter,' I'd say 'hard pass. Too on the nose.'

If you say, 'Bill Burr and Steve Buscemi try to turn him into a grownup,' I'd say 'where is it? Is it out now? Will it be out next week? When!?!?!?!'

Wife and I liked it, pretty by the numbers, could figure out what would happen, but a good action flick that was short and sweet.

I watched the original Evil Dead last week.

They definitely went over-the-top with the gore. It seemed like they were trying to flex their practical effects as much as possible.

I enjoyed it enough. It had some creepy moments with the demonic voices and music.. It's also easy to tell that it was the main inspiration for Cabin In The Woods.

Saw Hustlers, it was ok. Enjoyed staring at Constance Wu.

Agreed. If Pete Davidson is the future of comedy I want no part of it. :-)

Caught Joker finally. Had a Taxi Driver vibe to it. Not convinced Phoenix was best actor last year.
