I can set up a poll before the next season and we can vote on position format.

Crow, my gift to you is that I won't dictatoraly force the second flex on you. Xoxoxo

Mixed emotions. The Chiefs fan in me loves what Kelce did on the 4th quarter and OT tonight. The owner of a fantasy team in the playoffs is pissed at him. I went from being projected to beat IowaHawkeyeChief by 20 this afternoon to not being projected to lose by 10. Fucking asshole.

:-)

I don't know that it's entirely a 2nd flex issue...
Other things for vote should be:

I feel like the league just has too many variables and points. I feel like some combination of all of the above may make it a bit cleaner. I think it's a bit too geared towards trying to dissect every nuance of the game per player every week and try to figure out best contributions. I grew up in the old days of FFL where it was TD or FG only scoring and always feel like it should be weighted heavily towards those results rather than finding 6 players every week that will give you the best yardage output. Aint nobody got time for that. :-)

  • No fractional points
  • Tiered minimums (like 50 minimum rushing or receiving will get you 3 points and then 1 point per 10 yards thereafter, 200 minimum passing will get you 3 points plus 1 point per 20 yards thereafter, etc - not sure if Yahoo does it though)
  • Fumble lost and Interception are equivalent negative points
  • Passing TD points 4 vs 3 (dependent upon 2nd item above)

I hate the idea of tiered minimums.

But then again I also hate the standard scoring of only getting a point for the 10th yard.

#everyyardmatters

Aka I like fractional points.

Every yard shouldn't matter, is my rebuttal. I'd be less about tiered mins if there wasn't fractional points. Every 10 yards gets a point instead of every yard gets a fraction of a point seems more logical to me. Your player doesn't get partial credit for a TD because he had a fraction of the yards that got the team into the endzone, so why should he get credit for all yards instead of having to hit milestones?

I think players should have to hit milestones to get points, much in the same way they have to actually score to get points. You get 10 yards, you get a point. You can't get 10 yards, too bad. You shouldn't get 0.9 yards as a participation award, which is unfortunately the way FF leagues have went and a big reason I stopped playing years ago. I thought I'd revisit it but I figured out I still hate the idea.

Fractional yards can be the difference of a TD+1 across 8 player slots versus going with a milestone-based system.

Tiered minimums function more as another check against the system. If a player contributes 3 catches for 30 yards, he gets 3 points. Was that contribution worthy of points? Not really. That's likened to saying Demarcus Robinson had a half-TD impact on a game when the reality is he had little to no impact. But, if you have a system that requires a full roster plus 2 flex, its' hard to find guys for that last flex that will continually contribute points if there are tiered minimums so I could see the argument there.

As for the 2nd flex itself... I think it dilutes roster quality a bit and free agency.

I'm not saying everyone should agree with me. I just think alot of this should be put to vote and thought out in the offseason this time around.

Not having fractional points makes tds the most important thing. And they are fluky.

Why is the 90th yard more important than the 89th?

It doesn't make TDs the most important thing because you're still getting a point every 10 yards.

The 90th yard is a milestone. Much like crossing the 1-yard line isn't as good as crossing the goalline.

The 90th yard on its own has no value to the game. Neither does the 89th.

Why not only give points for yards that gain a first down or a td? That's the only way to ensure that you're only getting points for yards that matter to the game.

While we're at it, we also would need to eliminate all points scored by teams down by 20+ in the last 5 minutes of the 4th quarter as those yards and points are meaningless to the actual game.
