Nzoner's Game Room>Does Kevin Kietzman deserve to be fired/forced to resign?
TLO 08:39 PM 06-24-2019
I'm not 100% on the KK news from today. But figured we'd start a thread to discuss this topic.

Sound off below. Also feel free to add in the KK tweets and such in here.

Thanks!

The Chiefs/Andy could release a statement that the comment was in poor taste and they support coach Reid and his staff to the full extent and be done with it.

I probably wouldn't say anything and just go on about my business. But I damn sure wouldn't go out of my way for 810 or KK on anything.

It's pretty fucked up to be honest the shit Andy gets. Dude has brought the fucking franchise back from the dead and we have idiots shitting on him.

They'd fall apart.

Petro wouldn't stay. He's not going to stick around at a station with no access. He actually does his job and he can't do it if they're cut off. He'd go to 610 in a heartbeat. I don't think he'd leave town; his family is comfortable here and my memory is that they have to make some pretty significant accommodations for his daughter and that those have been made. I don't think he wants to uproot.

But 610 would welcome him with open arms. Afterall, the Chiefs would have to go somewhere and that somewhere would be 610. Petro would be even more liked by the Chiefs and their people after this. He already seems quite popular with them.

And 810 would just crater. Kietzman doesn't have the energy to carry a station these days and he's not going to 'groom' a new mid-day guy. He's not going to get in the trenches and rebuild from the ground up. At that point, as an owner, he'd pull himself from the air to salvage his investment. He's an idiot and lacks any semblance of self-awareness, but he knows what keeps his roof over his head and if 810 goes tits up, it takes him with it. He'll set his pride aside for his livelihood at that point.

The Chiefs have Kietzman's balls in there hands here and could crush them if they wanted to. I'm curious to see what happens.

KK went up on social media and defended his comments. Says he never mentioned Reid's kids by name and they "never crossed his mind." Yeah....suuuuuuure. Nice spin, dude.

You give him more credit than me, he loves his "we're the little guy" schtick.

But the issue was the last time he did shit like that it was Peterson and everyone hated him.....not many people are tired of the Chiefs front office and players these days like they were then.

And even if he did that under prior regimes - 810 was never persona non-grata.

If the Chiefs flat out cut their legs out from under them (which wouldn't be hard), then no amount of underdog pluck or chips on Kietzman's shoulder would save that station.

You cannot be a sports radio station in an NFL town if you don't have access to the NFL team. It's trying to run the 100 on one leg. They'd get eaten alive and there would be an 'internal shakeup' before the end of next season.

I like the Petro portion of the station. I like the "2 minute drill" "stump the chump" ..... Between the lines is okay.

It does make me question if they think their listener base won't leave because honestly if you listen to callers and their ads, their base is like 55 year old white dudes.

I wonder if there would be some kind of contract penalty the Chiefs would incur for breaking ties.

@dougstewart1: Remember when @kkwhb reminded us he was the one that had to sit @nate_bukaty down and have a talk with him about, gasp, shaking a piece of paper at someone. I wonder who @SportsRadio810 is doing that with him this morning. After all, he’s the stations moral and ethical compass.

He is his rebuttal from Awful Announcing:

I was commenting the Chiefs, as they always do, seem to think they can fix players. The owner was criticized, management criticized and Andy Reid was criticized. They asked our city to trust them with these players after we have already witnessed abuse cases and a murder/suicide in the parking lot of the practice facility. Many national outlets have chronicled the Chiefs embarrassing record with players committing crimes against others.

I never once mentioned anything about Andy Reid’s son’s death and never once had it on my mind. A caller called in later and said something about the death and I quickly corrected him and pointed out that I was referencing two sons that were convicted drug dealers and drug addicts that he chose to try to fix by hiring them to work for his football teams.

When Reid decided to hire his sons to try to help them, it ceased being a personal, private matter in my opinion. When a tax payer supported football team hires convicted felons, it is absolutely worthy of scrutiny. Andy Reid has hired several convicted criminals in his career and asked fans to trust him. Some have worked out, many have not. He’s also taken chances on players that somehow drop in the draft because other teams are scared to draft them and he’s going to work it all out. Failure with Marcus Peters and Kareem Hunt. Failed with many lesser known players that had to go. This is a complicated issue in Kansas City and at no point did I ever mention his son’s death, let alone blame him for it. That’s an insane position. But I do believe he and the Chiefs have a bad pattern of employing players, coaches and staff with real issues thinking it will all work out if they are working or playing for him. And that pattern is about to continue when they keep Tyreek Hill.

Reid and the Chiefs asked us to trust them as they moved Hill and subsequently his girlfriend to KC. Now Kansas taxpayers are taking care of Tyreek HIll’s son and likely his soon to be born twins. As concerned citizens, we at least find some comfort knowing our city and excellent Child Services professionals are taking care of a child the Chiefs and Tyreek Hill have failed.

Our group works very, very hard to help counsel parents that it is NOT their fault because they tend to blame themselves.
Andy is a good man but just like the rest of us, has flaws. He’s in a position where a lot of his mistakes are public and that just comes with the territory.
Funny thing is this is totally a social media/internet fiasco, I never had one person call and complain about anything I said and neither did the radio station.

His damage control program (if you want to call it that) is as disturbing as his original effort to swallow his foot. Basically, his best excuse/explanation so far is ...

"I wasn't referring to the dead son. I was referring to the other one."

If a normal, objective person with a normal, functioning brain can't see the lame, immature hypocrisy in this, they are missing the obvious.

All sports talk radio is geared toward 55 year old white dudes. That's why the ads are about Viagra, Cadillacs, financial advisers, golf and BBQ. It's that way nationwide.

He could have at least attempted to handle this gracefully. It probably wouldn't have worked, but he could have attempted it. Instead he doubles down, what a dickhead.
