Saccopoo Memorial Draft Forum>Nathaniel Dell (WR, HOU)
kccrow 10:52 AM 01-02-2023
So, Dell decided to enter the draft. He's about 5'9" 155.

I mean, the guy's a bean. He's also in the conversation for the best WR in the Big 12. But that's college.

So, where would you take the chance drafting the kid or would you?

It's not like we haven't seen small players, especially short and light. Trindon Holliday, Jakeem Grant, Tommylee Lewis, etc. But most are shorter than Dell and at least 10 pounds heavier to boot. Definitely not as stringy. Of course, none of them were ever much of anything other than decent return specialists.

Most of them were also UDFAs.

I have a hard time figuring a guy like this out. He has obvious skills and, of course, speed. He just looks like he'll snap.

He wouldn't give me confidence as a #3 slot where he'd need to operate in the land of linebackers and strong safeties across the middle.

Is he a guy you could see starting as a Z?

Or, is he stuck in that realm of 4th receive in 4 receiver sets and a return specialist? If he's that, then it's no earlier than the 6th.

Austin was short but pretty solid and just very hard to get hands on. Dell looks plenty shifty, I like him a lot. But man, I could see him getting beaten up a lot more than Austin.

He's a LONG way from my favorite WR in this draft but he's very interesting. I've already said my target for a WR, if that were my focus, would be Jalin Hyatt.

This is a loaded draft for WRs again, or so it seems.

Cut MVS to save $7 milly, use that money for Juju and draft Dell. I’m all for it.

That was just a post of mine from before the season even started. This deserved it's own thread.

It's been several months, and I still have A LOT of prospects to watch, so unlikely that he remains my favorite, but he's like Calvin Austin was to DJ last year for me.

Sounds like this dude is absolutely uncoverable at the Senior Bowl.

He's small, and it will probably keep him out of the top 50, but holy shit he has the potential to be a scary weapon.

He’s 5’8” 163 lbs. He’s probably a 4th rd pick at best

Good possibility, but I think that would be a mistake.

I would take him in a heartbeat with our 3rd.

I think he's a better prospect than Calvin Austin. I guarantee you he doesn't make it out of the 4th round. No chance in hell.

This is a relatively weak WR class compared to the last couple of years. It's lacking in explosive playmakers. That will only help his stock.

I used to get excited about these small WRs, Calvin Austin and others, but now I just don't think guys that size work out. The floor is too low, Tyreek was unique.

Great highlight real tho!

Dell is also way too small for me. It is so hard to separate the Locketts from the KJ Hamlers of the world.

I much prefer Cincinnati's Tyler Scott as a Tyreek comp but he's not quite as thick. Scott will probably be a 2nd round pick after he blows the doors off at the combine (already clocked a 4.29 in the past). He's got good movement and agility too plus a reported 41-inch vertical at nearly 5'10".

Dell is a guy though I'm just not sure about. He's got a great college tape in a wide-open offense. I just worry about his translation to the NFL with that size. I keep going back to all the failures at that size. Sub 5'9" is usually a difficult transition at WR and the very select few that have done it are very capable receivers going across the middle because they are a bit thicker. Dell is razor-thin. I'm still on the fence but I'm leaning heavily towards the "would not have him on my board" side of that fence.

I don't think he's going to be Tyreek, but I think he's going to be very, very talented. And I don't think Andy Reid will mind a guy with his size if he's that good.

My question is, where do you draft him? I think he's slam dunk second day talent.
Dude's production this year was just unreal.

109 catches (2nd) 1,398 yards (1st) and 17 TDs (1st).

Like I said, if he makes it out of day 3, that's a huge mistake.

Jesus Christ, I thought I was posting in a thread about Tyler Scott.

Why. Why did I think I was in a Tyler Scott thread.
