Nzoner's Game Room>The Raiders are sticking with Pierce as their HC
staylor26 03:13 PM 01-19-2024

Raiders are working to finalize a deal to hire Antonio Pierce as their head coach, per sources.

Raiders made Pierce their interim HC on Halloween night and now are closing in on making it a full-time job. Players who campaigned for Pierce soon are expected to be happy. pic.twitter.com/OAJTur9ZJ0

I had no idea he had brought Lewis aboard.

That's a nice move for a young guy like him. Really smart.

I think this might raise their floor a bit, but their ceiling is low.

Historically speaking, these interim HCs don't work out.

They have nothing at QB. HC really doesn't matter when that's the case.

I agree - they aren't winning playoff games or anything, but will likely be a thorn in the sides of a lot of teams.

I agree but Lewis last time I checked didn't play QB. Without the right QB you are not going anywhere.

He didn't get shafted at all. Quite the opposite. He was there much much longer than any other NFL team would have had him. He was an established DC when he was hired and he brought the Bengals back to respectability right away. He was given more of the reigns than any other previous Bengals coach, not named Brown. He was even there long enough for a "reboot" with Andy Dalton, even though the press conference to announce his return was as awkward as you can get.

After 16 years and an 0-7 record in the playoffs, including 5 straight one-and-dones, it was past time for the Bengals to move on from him. Mike Brown was loyal to a fault with Lewis.

Worse decisions have been made.

We'll see.

I'm pretty excited about AP as Raiders coach.

Need to hire an offensive staff and hope Graham doesn't get a HC gig.

Let’s them keep Crosby.

This.

Kind of unsettling, actually.

Well that's the thing, he's proven he can win games with absolute dogshit at QB.

They'll get a decent one, and they'll be a threat.

While true, remember that garbage Chiefs team beating the undefeated (IIRC) Packers team with Romeo as interim HC?

Ahh, that's actually a solid comparison. We shall see. I think once Romeo got the job, he checked out almost instantly. I don't see the same happening with Pierce. He's much younger and more intense than Romeo was.

All in all, it could certainly end up being a huge bust, but quite frankly they didn't have another option out there that makes it a questionable move. He was probably the best choice they had.
