Nzoner's Game Room>Orlando Brown Projected Contract 6 year $145 mil
dlphg9 08:17 PM 03-28-2022
So there's an article on NFL network saying that Orlando Brown is expected to sign for 6 years $145 mil.

That comes to $24.16 mil/yr and makes him the highest paid offensive lineman in football. It also would give him the 19th highest salary per year in the NFL

How would you feel if that is the contract he ended up signing?

I'm fine with it. He is a top 5 LT and he's only 26 next season. A young great LT is a guy you can't let leave.

Sure - but you can't really know that until you test the market.

Which is why I say if he comes back, it's probably gonna have to be a Mathieu situation where we let him go and hope he gets real reasonable, real fast. If not, we move on.

Alternatively, he could hire an actual NFL agent who has contacts in the league and can get some 'wink/nod' conversations started with team sources behind the scenes to get a feel for what his market would likely be.

In the end, the ball is entirely in OBJ's court at this point.

Don't we get a 3rd comp pick if we lose him? If we gave the equivalent of a two, got two years of relatively cheap service, and get a 3 back, that's pretty good value. Just saying.

He'll have to pull a move, that's all. Generally, if you can get in the top 20, you can find a tackle. Would I use the 2024 1st to move up to get an LT versus paying OBJ 25 million a year? Yes. 100%. I think he's being a bit overrated and he forced Patrick to completely change the way he plays. Meh... it's probably moot and I just need to learn to love him because I'm sure KC is going to pony up for the kid.
Raimann would get Pat decapitated. How could you possibly prefer that?

That's an excellent point that I hadn't really considered. His agent is learning on the fly and probably doesn't have the connections it takes to start any conversations prior to the negotiating period.

I know this has already been said, but fuck PFF. I wouldn't trust what they say about Chiefs players for any amount of money.

Brown bet on himself and going play himself out of a big payday. Good for Learch not to offer more money just to get him to sign. Now we have more options in the offseason.

I believe I suggested something along these lines before the draft even started. It did not go over well.
