Nzoner's Game Room>School's out for Summer!-AMA

I said I would.

But a few classroom rules.
1. The answer to the obligatory question. No
2. There are no stupid questions-just stupid people that ask questions.
3. Teacher has the right to suspend you.
4. Teacher can take regular quarter and holiday breaks.

Already?

Damn, thanks for making me feel old! :-)

A bit of a rant here.... In a mental predicament for the time being.

I had been teaching Earth Science for MANY years. Two years ago, my grade was switched to Physical Science.

I hate it. It is boring.

I asked my principal and a few others for reccs and have applied to a few public schools. Not sure if I can handle going back.

I also, have a 1000 grant for a new weather station at my current school which is much easier to work at.

My applications have not had a response. Not sure if it is licensure, being a male, being expensive or being white. I do have a lot of strikes against me in a public school. Which is amazing since everyone is so damn desperate for teachers.

Do I teach in a subject I hate and a place I like or teach a subject I like and a place that could kill me. The great mental debate.

Not looking for answers, just venting my quandary.

My old school has an opening. My PTSD and anxiety could not do it, and my wife said "HELL NO" Think Steely Dan....never going back to my old school.

From what I remember of what you said about your last building, you shouldn't go back there. How much longer do you have to go before retirement?

8-10 according to one financial advisor.

No way in hell could I go back. Not enough Sertraline for that. My docs office is across the street and my BP and heart rate goes up just going to the doc.

I have to drive by the building every day to my school, thank God there is a sound wall so I cannot see the building.

I HATE the last week of school. It's all nonsense "fun" days which amounts to us being high priced babysitters. Just go home and have "fun" whatever that means to kids nowadays.

Our grades are due Tuesday. The last day is Thursday. The reason is to "pass out report cards." Grades have been digital and online for 10 years now. Why do we still have to take 2 days to print them on paper and pass them out?...make it make sense!

Finishing up my first year at a small Jr. High/High School. It's been a great year, honestly. There are concerns because state funding (California) is a bit scary right now, but I am the high school teacher for World, US, and Government/Econ. so I should be good.

I commute to my job, which is the only downside, but considering the lack of discipline issues and good admin in place, it's well worth it to me.

So true on so many levels.

Everyone has 24/7 access to grades. You have an admin that does not understand the world today.

1995--I was at a school with an old school principal. He had a teacher checkout list from the 1960's. Items like-have the librarian make sure you do not have any books checked out and something about the copier and permission from the secretary. All BS.

When we hired someone new, I asked him to look at it. He just laughed and said "We dont need all of this, Especially for those that are coming back" (which was all)

He got it. I believe he still gets it. He was awesome. A teachers principal.

Yet I digress.
Today-there should be hard cut offs for work-and grades submitted. And less need for paper/postage and less money spent.

Knowledge is a burden and not a gift. If you knew, and all uncertainty was removed, you'd be left with only the anger of the situation...
