The #Ravens are trading LT Orlando Brown to the #Chiefs, per me and @MikeGarafolo. A new blindside protector for Patrick Mahomes.

Think they would all be happy if they were in the top 5 of each position group?
LT making an $18 to $20 Million AAV?
WR making a $20 to $24 Million AAV?
Safety making a $15 to $17 Million AAV?

I would think all of our players at those positions would take those kinds of deals as long as they had nice signing bonuses with the right number of years and by the time we got to the large numbers in the back half or so of those contracts, those numbers would not be nearly as bad.

So what if you tag him, the price tag of OT goes up, then he has an All Pro 2022 next year. His price tag would go up a long ways. I'd give him the long term deal, make his first year hit manageable and then have him locked up at a lower rate for the future. I don't think there's any way we move on from him in the near future.

We still need to find a good RT.

Yep - I'm not screwing around with tagging him 2 years. He got a lot more comfortable and was really good in the 2nd half of the season. There was always going to be an adjustment from different systems, but the Chiefs first priority needs to be a long term deal with him.

Sign him long-term or trade him.

There's nothing to be gained from tagging him. We've seen him adapt to this system, we've seen Mahomes adapt to him.

Don't expect him to get much better, don't expect him to get any worse. Ask yourself if this is a situation you'd be happy with for the next 5 years.

If it is, sign him long-term. If it isn't, trade him and try to find someone else. Throw some cash at Terron Armstead if necessary. Cornelius Lucas perhaps. Find a veteran FA and move on.

But all tagging the dude is going to do is make him more expensive if/when you do extend him, less valuable if/when you do trade him next season and just a tick older when his long-term deal starts.

He's shown as much as he needs to show to draw a conclusion one way or the other as to his long-term viability here.

I still think the smart money is extending Brown and tagging Matheiu. Tag for a safety is really not that expensive

Not sure if there are restrictions on the tag but my friend Google tells me the tag on safeties costs a little under $11mil. If we can get another year from Tyrann at $11m then I say why not. Although I’m not sure if he’d actually play for that much.

I think there's an unwritten rule in the NFL not to tag a veteran like Mathieu - that it would be seen as a major dick move by the Chiefs.

The players hate the tag, and the Chiefs seem to avoid it at all costs. I can't remember the last one before Dee Ford, who said he was fine with getting tagged, and also was then traded.

Extend Brown. Don’t roll the dice on a LT when you have one who is pretty good.

3 time pro bowl tackle that isn’t even 26.

Proven to be able to play either side at a high level. His pedigree is going to dictate him continuing to improve and do everything in his power to end with a gold jacket.

He deserves to be the highest paid tackle in history and is young enough to play out a long term contract every year at a high level.

We are dirt cheap on 3 of the line spots for the next three years. No reason in the world to not sigh OBJ long term.

Yup. Tagging Matthieu would not end well. Our front office would be toxic then.
