Can't believe the NBA Season is starting tonight. Way to early but here we go.

Lakers vs Nuggets: 6:30PM

Suns vs Warriors: 9PM

Both on TNT

This type of basketball is effectively the culmination of the change that began originally with the Nash Suns and soon all teams will be doing the same.
The Rockets between 2016-2018 shot the same amount as the Celtics have this year (42\game) but just ran into an all time great Warriors team. The 2021 Warriors championship team shot 39\game.

The end of the western conference was fun to watch. Okc, Dallas and Minnesota were playing really good defense. Yesterday’s game 2 was pretty fun. It’s weird because it’s pretty cool to see porzingis and Luka go flat out unconscious. But at the same time it makes for boring end of game basketball when it ends in blowout

Yes, Morey attempted much the same thing that it appears Stevens is gonna be successful with here.

BREAKING: Connecticut’s Dan Hurley has turned down the Los Angeles Lakers’ six-year, $70 million offer and will return to chase a third straight national title, sources tell ESPN. LA would’ve made him one of NBA’s six highest paid coaches. pic.twitter.com/hEXo3o00SR

Allow LeBron to shoot unguarded.

I think either would probably help getting more variety back in the sport but neither is likely to happen.
You are so weird. Why would they do this?

Moving the 3 point line is food for thought. The nba has a major blowout problem and 3 pointers are a big part of it. I doubt it will happen but it’s not the worst idea. Easily the two biggest things the nba needs to figure out are blowouts and load management/injuries.

To prevent the NBA from becoming a game where both teams are taking 50 threes a game every game with mediocre shooters (which is an inevitability after all teams fully adopt the analytic approach). I find enjoying that style weird and think more variety offensively is far more interesting to watch.

LeBron is effectively the coach of his teams and everyone has known that for years. Hurley never had any intention of using the Lakers as anything more than leverage.

Extending the 3PT line or taking away corner threes (by far the most efficient shot in basketball outside of a wide open layup/dunk) would discourage it.

I think we are many years away from the NBA even looking at this as a problem though (if they ever do). Most fans still seem to like the constant barrage of threes (despite the blowouts it leads to) but they may not as much when every team plays exactly the same style.

Just get rid of the damn line.
Or maybe make it worth 2.5 pts.

That would completely change the game back to one in which the slow plodding giant Zach Edey would be one of the best players in the NBA. Not sure that’s what you want either.

When the 3PT line was added, though, it was an era when few players/teams could take advantage of it and it was a far more difficult shot for the average NBA player. It definitely wasn’t envisioned that it would become what it has become.
