I’ve been very critical of this Kansas team, but I refuse to chalk that win up to Northeastern having a bad day.
We played well and we’re better. It’s pretty much that simple.
Any of their stats that might indicate they would be a tough matchup for us are probably misleading due to their 100th ranked Strength of Schedule vs our 1st ranked Strength of Schedule (via CBS Sports).
Oh yeah, anyone who wasn't/isn't hell bent on figuring out how to make every match up look like KU shouldn't even bother showing up (all for the LOLs!!) figured that out..... IIRC, Northeastern had lost to VTech and Syracuse (or something like that) by like 15-20+ and that was pretty much it as far as decent competition (compared to say UC Irvine, who beat St Mary's and a couple other tourney teams, you could actually make a case for an upset).
Yeah, there's still a chance they can rise up with a crazy day shooting AND the chance KU could play like shit (NE would probably need both to happen), but that's a relatively small chance (even given we now live in a world where a 16 has won a game).
Auburn is of course more of a toss-up, but Auburn and NMSU both showed last night why they wouldn't be heavy favorites against most teams in the tournament, by trying to out-choke each other. With my limited knowledge of Auburn, I'd assume if KU plays relatively well (for this year's team), Auburn would still have to shoot fairly well from 3 to win, given they shoot a million 3s per game.
