As others have mentioned you don't build a champion in FA. Unfortunately KC is paying the price for bad drafts in 2018 & 2019, the Frank Clark trade, and IMO CEH in the 1st round in 2020. Could gone out in FA and plugged some holes but that doesn't guarantee anything, and it further hurts the cap situation going forward.
Need to bank on some more excellent drafts the next two years. No more trading of high draft picks for veterans who also need large contracts. No more runningbacks in the 1st round. Need premium talent early in the draft and hopefully a few hidden gems here or there late in the draft or UDFA.
I think KC will make the playoffs, either as the division champion or as a wildcard. I wouldn't put money on them hosting the AFCCG again or even making it there, but anything can happen in the playoffs. That's fine, as long as they make some smart personnel moves over the next couple of years and retool for another run. I'm not a huge fan of a lot of the moves Veach has made and his overall team building philosophy, but I'm optimistic he can continue to improve and learn from his mistakes.
I'll be interested to see where we go with the draft this year. Last year was amazing, although one minor complaint is that all of our biggest picks were at positions that IMO aren't quite as important as areas like defensive end, cornerback, and wide receiver. Need to follow up last year's excellent draft with stocking the defensive line and some skill position players on either side of the ball. Follow up the 2021 draft with another top notch draft and we're in a good position for the long haul. [Reply]

The mahomes card is a well I don’t want to jump on too often. Every time we restructure that we add a few more million to his future cap hit. Seems like this year we have no choice but hopefully just as a last resort [Reply]

Wonder if it's the back. Either way, some red flags here, so plz proceed w/ caution :-). I think some incentive-laden, shorter term deal may be in the air here. [Reply]
The fact he doesnt have another deal lined up makes me believe it was the Ravens that backed out. Something may be up with his medicals that scared them off. [Reply]

I was under the impression that everyone was so impressed with the contract because it was designed for that. [Reply]
The Ravens felt like they had a deal with free agent OLB Za'Darius Smith yesterday, felt like they had a verbal agreement. But Smith changed his mind. You never say never, but it seems unlikely this is salvageable.
