Nzoner's Game Room>Zach Wilson Possibly Lost Starting Job?
Sassy Squatch 04:47 PM 11-21-2022

#Jets HC Robert Saleh said he's evaluating everything and they aren't committing to Zach Wilson as this week's starter vs. the Bears.

Simple region reads or high/low options.

Daboll created this for Allen year 1 after Allen disintegrated trying to run the Patriot offense.

It was one read and if not open then run.

It worked. Bought Allen and the coaches time to keep adding pieces. If Allen had been running the current Jets offense I am positive he would have been written off after 2 years.
Respectfully disagree. The coaches are watching the film and are better experts than all of us, afterall it's their job. When watching the film, they are clearly under the impression this is Wilson's fault and not the playcall of the OC otherwise you wouldn't have Saleh talking about doing a QB change even with Wilson's dumb ass comment.

Minshew would be perfect for the Jets.

Finally heard the comments. I didn't think they were that big of a deal. A loaded question too, imo.

Saleh is a defensive coach. He chose Lafleur to run the offense.

If Lafleur knew how to fix this he would. He's in over his head.

Maybe there's an assistant trying to get input in but so far no signs of change.

Daboll was sinking like this with Allen until Allen took a huge hit and missed time.

When Allen returned Daboll has created a new offense based on keeping Allen alive.

No signs anyone in Jersey sees it.

I get what you're saying.

But most OCs aren't very good at that. Mostly what they do is try to install their offense into the prospective QB. Do it my way, or it's the highway, kind of.

But what Dan is talking about in most of that analysis is that Wilson isn't even playing up to a high level for a college QB. He's failing at basic reads and tasks.

That's a big problem, if the QB isn't even up to a minimum standard of execution.

We saw Wilson in college and he was a tremendous college QB. Of course he was running a "college" offense.

If I was a Jets fan I would be punching a wall right now because it looks like a top 2 pick on QB about to sink to nothing in value.

Atlanta is a good fit here. Arthur Smith ran the simple read offense that Tanny thrived in and could make Wilson look totally different.

I think Ny is where QBs go to wither away and die, so I agree with you on some level.

Another OC, one that was really good at mentoring up QBs is probably what Zach needs more than anything. And he's probably not getting that with M. LaFleur.

But Dan's right as well. Some of those plays and Wilson's decision-making in them should've been kind of elementary. The open man is standing right there in front of him; throw him the damn ball. The last one, well, that's where you make your bones as a QB in the NFL. Hit that guy running the post and you're a hero.

There's no doubt that Wilson is playing poorly.

He's in his own head and his footwork, accuracy are way off.

Just telling him to tough it out won't solve this though.

He's getting paid millions to throw the ball to an open receiver, however many times he can during a game.

Just do it.

Honestly, at this point I hope they bench him and trade him.

Why let yourself get Darnolded.

Look, I've only watched a couple of Jets games, so getting into the details of the offense isn't something I know enough about to do. I know that with Hall running the ball, they looked just fine, judging by the results and the highlights.

The Zach Wilson I watched on Sunday was literally one of the worst NFL QB's I've ever seen. I can tell you there were guys open and he just flat couldn't hit the broad side of a barn. Like, I'm 50, throw left handed, haven't played a lick of organized football since 1988, smoke a pack a day, and I could've played that well. He was AWFUL.

Sunday's QB is so far away from making an argument about offensive design that even talking about the 'offense' is offensive.

He's regressed to the point where he is NOT an NFL Quarterback. Now, if you want to lay THAT at the offensive coordinator's feet, yeah, ok, I'll buy that. Clearly the QB coach in particular must be a total idiot. And it's their jobs to have that kid ready to play and he's clearly not. So part of the blame, at least, must fall to the coaches under most normal circumstances.

However, his post-game demeanor and comments would lead me to believe that the kid thinks it's everybody else's fault, and if that's the case, then it's a lost cause.

Maybe i missed a comment, but when i heard them last night i didn't get that impression at all. Seems like a made up narrative that people are running with.

Now, he didn't give the cliche Mahomes-like football answer. But he wasn't acting like some blameless QB.

Per Chris Russo, who love him or hate him (I'm in the former category, myself) certainly knows the NY sports media scene, Wilson has come across as smug and entitled multiple times in post game interactions this season. Sounds like it was not a one time thing, which may be why it is being made a bigger deal that it would be had it been a one off comment.
