I don't know if I like any particular WR that might be there for us, but that's another matter.
Gotcha. So it's not that you are against investing big in a WR. [Reply]

No, absolutely not. I'd love to have a great WR. I just don't think it's a wise investment to sink anywhere near $20m (that we'd have to push money forward to fit) on a post 30 year old WR that hasn't finished a season in two years.
If Mahomes was 38 and you were trying for one last push, yeah, you maybe do that.
I think we're going to have to grow one for now, and that's scary for people, but I don't think there's any way around it. Not that is financially sound.
We'll sign a guy or two, but they're not going to be #1 types, they'll have a specific skillset that Andy can use and we'll spread the ball around again.
It's not like it hasn't worked, and it's not like Mahomes didn't just get MORE expensive cap-wise.
And if they draft a Jalin Hyatt or something in the first, I shall rejoice along with everyone else. [Reply]
I hear ya Meck, I was out on Hopkins until he said he would work with a team in regards to his contract. Sounds like a guy that might be willing to sacrifice for a ring. [Reply]

I seriously doubt that Veach is going to throw $20m at an over 30 WR, especially one that will require serious draft picks in trade, and super especially when either of the WR's you guys are salivating over have finished a season in at least two years.
That doesn't mean I think the WR room is set as of March 16. That doesn't mean I don't think we'll draft a guy. Doesn't mean I don't think we'll sign a guy.
I think we will sign at least one FA-although I doubt you're going to be satisfied if you're expecting a bonafide-no-doubt-number-one-WR type. And I expect somewhere in the first three rounds of the draft we'll take a WR as well.
And I'm sure we'll bring back JWat on a cheap deal as insurance, as he has a year in the offense.
There will be, at minimum, two new faces in that first 5 WR on the depth chart, I just about guarantee.
I seriously doubt it will be Hopkins or OBJ. There's absolutely nothing that Veach has said or done in the last 5 years to indicate that he'd pay that kind of money to often injured, over 30 players. There's a TON of evidence to the contrary.
And that's it. That's my whole opinion. And you guys can act like I'm shitting in your cheerios and ruining your fun, but it's not up to me. It's up to Veach, and my prediction is what my prediction is.
It's just not how he's been going about team building since the realities of Mahomes huge cap hit took hold.
This is all good, this is the Chris Meck we all know and love.
Its the "You guys will never learn", "Veach is NEVER...", "You are all panicking in March" stuff that seems like a different poster.
You know I dig your posts, you are certainly right more than wrong.
BUT we just want to upgrade the position, however we can. I like most believe we will sign a FA and draft a WR. Most of us really want a stud if possible (Im sure you do too).
Signing an older WR or trading for one is not something Veach has done but the team and Veach is evolving. Circumstances can dictate a different direction than the preferred option.
The Chiefs are in on OBJ and probably Hopkins as well. It would be weird if they werent. Will it happen? We dont know yet, we all believe in Veach so whatever he ends up doing will be good.
Right now, those guys are options and its perfectly reasonable to discuss them. [Reply]

I've not seen a single source indicate that they're doing anything other than listening to offers. I've not seen anywhere that they're actively shopping him.
And at any rate, would YOU send Hopkins packing for a 4th round pick? Because I sure wouldn't. I'd expect that might get me fired. [Reply]
I have no fear of drafting a WR, the issue for me is if you do that you kill the value, the players at 31 are most likely to be edge guys and we can use those.
Like I'd rather have Will McDonald like Jalin Hyatt [Reply]
