Chiefs and veteran free-agent defensive tackle Danny Shelton have agreed to terms on a one-year contract, per his agents @DrewJRosenhaus and @RyanMatha. Shelton was most recently with the Giants.

Come on man.
If this fatass makes the team…I’ll officially be worried about our DT’s.

I wouldn't go buying his jersey or anything here. If Saunders continues to play like he did last week, I don't think Shelton sticks. He'd have to bump Saunders or the Chiefs would have to carry 10 DL (and that's presuming the likely Kaindoh cut). It's possible, but by no means a given.
At that point it could come down to Harris as a 6th LBer and STs player or Shelton as a 10th DL.
Dude's pretty fungible and absolutely on the roster bubble.
He really wasn't crap. What he isn't is a pass rusher. He's what Saunders should have been by now but isn't... a meatball of a run stuffer. [Reply]

I'm not, and I think he does stick. Could be wrong, but if I were to think there's a guy on a bubble it's going to be Saunders. It might come down to Shelton v Saunders, but Shelton has been a good player in his role in the NFL since day 1 and Saunders is in a contract year with nothing of substance.
The Chiefs were in a spot where Nnadi was the only guy on this team that can play the 1. Stallworth and Wharton aren't guys that can be strong starters there if Nnadi went down. They absolutely should have hedged their bets against Saunders. [Reply]
One of these four DTs will probably be released or traded.
1. Danny Shelton - Do not know contract but it was 1 year and probably $1.120M for his NFL service time. Waiting to see contract to see if any part is guaranteed.
2. Taylor Stallworth would cost $300,000 of dead money to cut and we would save $747,500. If we could trade, it would cost us nothing.
3. Khalen Saunders would cost $228,795 of dead money and we would save $990,000. It is the same for a trade.
4. Tershawn Wharton would cost $1,668 of dead money and we would save $895,000. Same number for a trade.
Chris Jones and Derrick Nnadi will be the starting DTs.
As I think about this though, it might be a good bet that Khalen Saunders gets injured in preseason trying to make the team. [Reply]
