Story by Andrew Gould

The Kansas City Chiefs won the Super Bowl without a star wide receiver, but they could reportedly make an elite offense even scarier by acquiring DeAndre Hopkins.

NFL insider Benjamin Albright told PHNX Cardinals that Kansas City is the "primary suitor" for Hopkins. He doesn't know the draft compensation the Cardinals would receive, but he said it's more likely they get a second-round pick than a first.

After the 2022 season, theScore's Jordan Schultz reported that the Cardinals plan to trade Hopkins this offseason.

Arizona hired a new general manager and head coach after a disappointing four-win season, and Hopkins is set to make $19.45 million (with a $30.75 million cap hit) in 2023. The Cardinals could seek a clean slate by moving the three-time All-Pro wideout, who turns 31 in June.

Hopkins began his Cardinals career by tallying 1,407 yards and six touchdowns in 2020. However, multiple lower body injuries limited him to 10 games in 2021, and he served a six-game suspension to start the 2022 season for violating the NFL's PED policy.

Yet he remains an impact player when on the field. Hopkins totaled 474 receiving yards in six full games with quarterback Kyler Murray last season.

Now imagine what he can accomplish when catching passes from Patrick Mahomes.

The Chiefs flourished without a star replacement for Tyreek Hill, but they could still benefit by solidifying the position this offseason. JuJu Smith-Schuster is a free agent after garnering 78 catches for 933 yards on a one-year deal. The depth chart features several talented question marks in Mecole Hardman, Kadarius Toney, and Marquez Valdes-Scantling.

Adding Hopkins could be great news for Kansas City, but terrible for all opposing defenses.

Yeah trading a first is dumb

But I will say that this year's first has a higher chance of sucking than other first rounders. The more I learn about the draft the less I like our chances in the first round.

Everybody I love is moving up and the ones moving down are slow. I feel like this is the last remnants of the covid draft.

What I'm saying is I'd rather trade picks from this draft than future drafts, that's all.

Which typically means "trust me bro" is their source.

Again, you're seeing what you want to see because you've been told that it's a "weak draft class".

They're talking about the top of the draft class. The talent in our range isn't any different than the last few years.

This is a GOOD thing where we are sitting.

Yup.

Some weird combination of it not being 2 years worth of draftees like the COVID draft and your standard "WAIT TILL NEXT YEARS CLASS!!" nonsense that we've been reading about drafts for 20 years.

FFS, remember the '17 draft when 'the QB class is awful!' and the 2018 QB class was said to be the best in generations?

Yeah - that checked out.

Truly good and truly bad draft classes are extremely rare. 80% of them are within the margin of error of every other draft class.

Exactly and this nonsense about all the guys he likes are moving up and the "slow" guys moving down is just that.

That's media driven BS. There's no consensus NFL board that is changing every day. Guys are moving up and down mocks drafts, and it means absolutely nothing.

It usually means agents are paying the guys, Kiper has admitted in the past that he moved guys due to agent payouts because hey it's marketing.

"I wanted to get him into this exercise..."

Suddenly makes a lot more sense on Kipers mock.

Man - fuck that hack.

I’d like to see AZ give Hopkins a 3 year extension with heavy signing bonus. Then go ahead and give up that 2nd. Saving cap would be worth it.

If this draft was held anywhere but KC I'd have zero problem with trading out ot the first. With that said...

"Kansas City is now on the Clock" IN KC is just too good.

I'd say that we have at least a 50/50 shot of getting a better player at 31 and possibly 63 than last year. This is particularly true because the depth of the draft, especially at DE/Edge, WR, and RT looks to fit needs perfectly. There are also a handful of really nice interior DL players that might get pushed down due to positional value.

I don't buy this 'weak draft' shit at all.
