Because take a brilliant offensive mind and give him an elite defensive player (again, Reggie White) and that makes the team quite a bit better, but does it make it a dynasty? I don't think so - defensive players don't move the needle that much.

But take an elite defensive mind and give him an elite QB? Well, we saw how that works.

I think there are arguments for both approaches. As you noted, I think your floor is higher with an elite offensive coach because you shouldn't ever truly suck. But f you're looking to build a dynasty, it may be that a premium defensive mind backed by a stellar QB is a cleaner path to get there...
You make a great point.

If the QB is already in place, then you go with the best man for the job. If not, definitely prefer the offensive minded HC.

The #Chargers fired offensive coordinator Joe Lombardi, sources tell me and @RapSheet.

A big move by Brandon Staley, who should have candidates lining up for a chance to work with Justin Herbert. pic.twitter.com/oUs3aHXTQM

Sounds like the Chargers aren't going to fire Staley.

:-) Nice. Waste the last year of cheap Herbert.

They never were. Cheap to fire a coordinator.

Apparently, TB OC Byron Leftwich may get the axe pretty soon.

I guess... what were the expectations?

Like, when we fired Sutton, we had already undergone the talent drain and the old guard had just about completely aged out or gotten too expensive (or both). It made sense to start over, but we wanted to go in a different direction as a scheme.

In this case, you've got an old pedophile who goes down easier than Damon Huard after leg day, and he's behind an OL that got hurt a lot. That's a recipe for a pedestrian as fuck offense.

What are they going to replace that offense with? If you're putting in a new system, fine. If you're just going to move on without Brady but keep most of the core players intact, I don't know how wise that is.

I'm not saying Leftwich is some genius, but he wasn't necessarily the problem. The OC rarely is, even though fans and the media constantly shit on whoever is in that position.

He’s been a top head coach prospect for awhile and now he’s fired. Yikes.

Well, let's not jump the gun; he ain't fired yet.

As to whether he's really a great OC or HC prospect, I don't really know. i never enough to believe that he was either, but that's just me.

But he has been highly praised in recent years, so it's definitely news if he does get fired.

Why Not? 08:01 PM 01-17-2023
A true up to date OP update would take off pretty much most of the hot seat list. McDaniels is safe per Mark Davis. McVey is coming back. I guess you can keep Staley there another week or so but he appears safe. If the Commanders sell, Rivera might get the ax but otherwise, not sure he is going anywhere either.

titans biggest issue is thinking running the ball and having tannehill will win you a SB.
