The full 2024 NFL schedule is slated to be released at 8pm ET on May 15, six days after teams were originally expecting it, according to a league memo sent this afternoon.

The memo from NFL EVP/Media Distribution Hans Schroeder did not give a reason for the delay. The schedule release had not been officially announced yet, and the league always maintains a degree of flexibility considering the complex nature of developing the schedule. But some teams had been told informally it was coming Thursday.

Schroeder wrote that more details about activations or other nuances of the plan were expected in the coming days. The league and media rights holders sometimes announce specific high-profile matchups before the full slate is unveiled.

The schedule release has become a key priority for teams and the league in recent years, with teams preparing increasingly sophisticated schedule social content and using it as a starting point for single-game ticket sales.

Speaking of Jaguars, Jaguars and the city of Jacksonville agreed on a 1.4 billion stadium, the rendering of the stadium is gorgeous

That they both won their divisions has nothing to do with them playing each other (this year) or where they play each other.

The AFC West is playing the AFC North this season. Last time the divisions played one another was 2021. The Chiefs played at the Bengals and Ravens and had the Steelers and Browns at home. The time before that was 2018. The Chiefs had the Bengals and Ravens at home and played at the Steelers and Browns. In 2027 the divisions will play again and the Chiefs will play at the Bengals and Ravens and get the Steelers and Browns at home.

It's been no mystery since 2002 when the league expanded to 32 teams.

The Bengals didn't win their division. Or come in second. They were a last place team.

Okay, so I misspoke. What I meant was "where they finished in their division". Sorry, on my phone so difficult to edit.

For instance, 2025:

2025
Home
Denver Broncos
Los Angeles Chargers
Las Vegas Raiders
Houston Texans
Indianapolis Colts
Philadelphia Eagles
AFC North TBD
Washington Commanders
Away
Dallas Cowboys
Denver Broncos
Jacksonville Jaguars
Las Vegas Raiders
Los Angeles Chargers
New York Giants
Tennessee Titans
AFC East TBD

What I was referring to was the "AFC north TBD" and "AFC east TBD". Those are selected on how both teams finished in their divisions.

So if the Steelers Christmas Day game rumor is accurate the Chiefs are going to play games on Saturday, Sunday, Monday (presumably), Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday this season.

Ah I see. Sorry, I'm a real geek for how the NFL schedule works.

It will eventually occur...but not before there will be the normal hand wringing and input from the public. In addition there is already questions about how it is structured and how it is really a 50/50 split in the financing.
