If they aren't, then the managers can be sued and the government will get involved if reported. (Seen it happen) The real reason servers want you to tip in cash is because servers report their tips independently and can under report cash tips.

Yeah most servers are seriously on top of their money. Tip theft is difficult to hide and aside from legal consequences, you'd lose every decent server in the place.

You wanting to not pay tax on your tips is obviously why you yourself appreciate cash tips. There are also those who get done dirty by their employers who skim their tips. It's not really a hard thing to comprehend, even if you have worked as a waiter for ten years yourself.

The people who are most likely to get exploited are also the least likely to take legal action or report it to the authorities. In my case I was a dumb 18 year old and the rest of the waiting staff were Eastern European immigrants.

Gotcha. Yeah if you don't know to look for it or have few employment alternatives and resources that can be a tough situation. Definitely not downplaying how disgusting employers that steal from their employees are.

I don’t even remember the last time I had cash on me. I barely even know the pin on my ATM card and don’t remember the last time I used it. I’m to the point where I don’t even carry a wallet and use Apple pay almost all the time.

You're more well adjusted to all of this new gobblygook

Credit cards can be scammed 100 different ways, cash keeps you off the grid

I ordered some stuffed mushrooms from a restaurant over the phone and told them I'd come through the drive thru and pick it up. When I showed up, the ticket had a 15% gratuity charge built in. I told the lady I wasn't paying that for drive thru. I had to talk to the manager and she refused to take it off. I handed them their food back and did not pay anything and told them I'd never be back.

I know it happens a lot here and this is a country with far more workplace regulations than yours. And don't come at me with some dumbass 'people from the US know their worth more than the Brits' statement if you're going to say that it's not the same where you are.

I also genuinely don't care if you think my life tips are shitty. I'ma keep posting them, dickhead.

And then let's say the business distributes the tips to all workers at end of shift.

You will have your good employees that hustle and smile, and are polite get more in tips then lazy, sad employees. Yet they split the tips a to everyone.
Causing the good, hard workers to be disgruntled and being more like lazy and sad employee.

Another reason to tip your waiter/waitress in cash. My (cash) tip gets better by the minute!
