Saccopoo Memorial Draft Forum>Pre-Season 2018 Mock
kccrow 05:57 PM 08-14-2017
Assumptions:
Re-sign/tender/extend CB T. Mitchell, NT R. Nunez-Roches, DE J. Jenkins, K C. Santos, LB K. Pierre-Louis, LB R. Wilson, LB T. Smith, FB A. Sherman, QB T. Bray, CB P. Gaines
Chiefs trade Alex Smith for a 3rd rounder and a bag of cheetos.
Chiefs sign veteran backup QB.

2. Porter Gustin - EDGE - USC
Chiefs will need to replace T. Hali and they also have a contract situation looming for D. Ford. I have a feeling Gustin busts out this year, and he's already a great run defender.
3. T.J. Edwards - ILB - Wisconsin
Tough inside backer that plays well in the passing game. D.J. is likely out after 2017 and there isn't much on the burner.
3. DaeSean Hamilton - WR - Penn State
Get a sure-handed #3.
4. Ike Boettger - OT - Iowa
Gotta have a backup tackle, J. Reid is shit.
5. L.J. Scott - RB - Michigan State
Keep churning the stable. Scott is a workhorse.
6. Bijhon Jackson - NT - Arkansas
Depth behind Roches.
7. Spencer Smith - P - Memphis
Time to let Colquitt's salary walk away.

Edit: Had to remove second 7th rounder which was lost due to trading for Acker.

Sammy Watkins is a prime example. Injuries have hurt him a bit for sure, but when healthy he's been awesome even in a Rex Ryan offense. Imagine him in Kyle whannahans offense or andys .

Andy is great schematically for offensive skill guys in getting them open. In situations like Kelce where you get an super talent in that scheme he can take off. That's why I'd like to see them put a legit talent across from tyreek if the Conley thing doesn't work out.
While there's some truth to that, guys like Watkins, that had great measurables, shouldn't be failures in the NFL, yet it happens every year.

It would be nice to see someone across from Tyreek and I think Conley is still ascending. Plus, they've drafted Robinson and Chesson and have an intriguing guy in Jones, so it's not for a lack of trying.

I'd rather see them continue the pattern of taking defensive skill position players early while coaching up wide receivers along with offensive and defensive lineman.

Even Kelce was a third.

Agree with Dane. Let's evaluate what we have:

-OL set up for the next 3 years (I think Morse is a high priority to be signed).
You've got your QB.
-2 of the best mismatches in the league at receiver (Kelce/Hill) with Conley and 2 developing players behind them.
-safety is very strong and deep.

I think that leaves the front 7 and Corner.

Corner-Peters, Mitchell and Nelson will all need new deals around the same time in 2018/2019. I think we also need quality depth there. We can't afford to keep all three of them.

Front 7- Tanoh playing OLB looks like he could be Tamba's replacement as a hybrid type. I think we should still see if we can find a pass rusher to fit in this group.

Bottomline is QB and pass rush are the most important things. I want to stock this defense up even more to ensure that it's elite for years to come.

Yeah but the Bills decided to move on from him even before he was traded by not picking up his 5th year option.

I think there are better choices to be made in the early rounds than WR.

If we let Bray and. Alex leave even with a vet QB we are down to 2 QBs
