That ability to escape the pocket, extend plays, plant that...run? pass?...seed, is where things are heading. No backer ever has to worry about Eli, Rivers, Brady, Dalton, running the football. That can't be said about those mentioned above.
Lamar Jackson is what we see at Arizona(faster than Jackson), Oklahoma, Ohio State, and all over college/HS football nowadays, that mobile QB, a guy who can scoot 30 yards, extend plays.
The first black QB's were Willie Thrower, Marlon "Magician" Briscoe, James Harris, "Jefferson Street" Joe Gillum. (can't really count Fritz Pollard) but none of them made any impact.
It started with Doug Williams, Warren Moon and Randall Cunningham, they proved that yes blacks can play NFL QB.
Today there are more black starting QB's than ever before.

I don't think anybody on this board said a word about Mahomes being black when he was drafted. Most people on this board wanted a white QB (Alex Smith) replaced by Mohomes. No one gave a shit about Mahomes color.
Also, running QB's don't last long in the NFL. Do you not hold your breath when Mahomes runs with it? Look at Cam Newton. Look at Kapernick (though he had no throwing accuracy either.) Look at Vick. Look at RGIII.

People have been saying this for about 30 years now. There have always been athletic fast QB's and they've never 'taken over' the NFL. McNabb and Vick were supposed to usher in a whole new era. That didn't' really happen. Then the read option was going to make athletic QB's the default. That didn't happen.
The NFL revolutionizes athletic QB's, not the other way around. Mahomes is great because he's awesome at what a QB needs to be awesome at: Throwing the football. His mobility is just gravy on an already stacked meal. [Reply]

FFS, Alex Smith could run in a straight line way faster than Mahomes. Mahomes isn't better because he's 'more athletic'. He's better because he's MUCH better at THROWING THE FOOTBALL. I don't want to attribute it to his blackness because I've never seen anyone of any race throw it better...and the guys who come closest are... well... white. Seems western africa's superior genes don't influence throwing of inflated oblong shaped artificial pigskin.
