I like the Smithsonian channel. It's kind of what History Channel used to be before it became white trash reality TV.
As for Thanksgiving, I want turkey, mashed potatoes/gravy and the country-style egg noodles that I had as a kid but haven't had in decades because everybody who made them is long dead. I'm actually doing a mini-Thanksgiving tomorrow for some friends who are passing through before traveling out of O'Hare on Thursday, so I'll be cooking my first turkey, albeit just a breast. [Reply]

We have two dishes that are holiday staples that don't get made any other time.
Cheesy corn casserole - corn and cornbread mix with lots of cheese and sour cream. Ends up like a cake
Sweet potato casserole - nutmeg and cinnamon spiced sweet potatoes, with butter, cinnamon, sugar and pecans on top to make a topping. Ends up like a cross between pumpkin pie and pecan pie. [Reply]

About 7 years ago I went in to a Planet Fitness with the intention of paying cash for a 1 year membership. They told me they require a monthly auto draft out of my bank account and that they absolutely would not accept the full annual payment in advance. I said, "Screw it then, you'll get nothing" and walked out. That's how badly they want people on auto draft so that they can make it hard for them to quit. That's the main component of their business model - fucking their customers over. Amazing, really. [Reply]
