Nzoner's Game Room>One guy on defense came to play on Sunday

Ward quietly looked the best he has all season. Seems like he’s finally 100% or close to it.

I'm not in the proper mindset to bring any sort of defense to our defense.

I was wondering exactly how Ward fared. I saw him make a couple nice plays, including that great tackle along the sideline and the nice pass defensed, but I didn't get around to really looking at his numbers or paying attention to him in the replays I watched after the game. But it didn't seem like his name was being mentioned a lot during the game after a catch.

He had a pretty solid tackle on Ruggs too. Slammed him on the ground

If Jones and Clark go out and drive Brady's face into the turf a few times Sunday, and HB picks him off, everyone will be back on board.

I thought the LB'ers actually played well against the run. DL did as well.

The Pass rush was just shit.

Our run D was great. Pass rush was shit like usual - and the secondary uncharacteristically was shit.

I think Wharton did a solid job. Pennel as well.

We miss Ogbah

When Clark and Jones got stymied last year, we could usually count on him to get a pressure or sack

Anyone else feel like the whole team just lacks energy?

The more I think about it the more it makes sense why the defense could struggle at times. Of our defensive draft picks the past two drafts very few are contributing at all right now due to injury, inexperience, etc.

In 2020 we took Gay, Sneed, Danna, and Keyes. Gay is too inexperience to be dependable, Sneed flashed early but was working his way back from injury, Keyes is raw, and Danna flashed early but hasn't been the same since his injury.

In 2019 we took Thornhill, Saunders, and Fenton. Fenton is clearly the best of the bunch and is playing fairly well. Saunders had his injury early in the season, returned briefly against Denver, and hasn't played since. Thornhill probably can't be counted on for much this year IMO.

Factor in Clark, Jones, and HB not playing up to their potential lately and you have the recipe for a decline on defense. We've just had some really shitty luck with injuries and the shortened offseason hurting the development of just about every young player on defense.

I don't put much into PFF grades, but I believe he had one of the worst on the team. Should be valuable experience, however, and hopefully he learns from his mistakes and improves.
