The list of Semifinalists, which also was announced live today on NFL Network, was reduced from an initial group of 130 nominees announced in September. The next step in the Selection Process comes when the Semifinalists are trimmed to 15 Modern-Era Finalists. That list increases to 18 Finalists with the inclusion of the recommended nominees of the Hall of Fame’s Coach, Contributor and Senior Committees: Tom Flores, Bill Nunn and Drew Pearson, respectively.

The Class of 2021 will be determined and announced during the week leading up to Super Bowl LV in Tampa, Fla. While there is no set number for any class of enshrinees, the Bylaws for the Selection Committee provide that between four and eight new members will be selected.

The Coach Finalist, Contributor Finalist and Senior Finalist are voted “yes” or “no” for election at the annual selection meeting and must receive at least 80% support from the Committee to be elected. The Modern-Era Finalists will be trimmed during the meeting from 15 to 10, then from 10 to five. The remaining five finalists will be voted on individually, “yes” or “no,” and must receive the same 80% positive vote as the Coach, Contributor and Senior Finalists to earn election to the Pro Football Hall of Fame.

The Pro Football Hall of Fame’s Class of 2021 will be enshrined Sunday, Aug. 8, 2021 in Canton as part of the 2021 Enshrinement Week Powered by Johnson Controls. Other events during the week of festivities will include the rescheduled Hall of Fame Game between the Pittsburgh Steelers and Dallas Cowboys on Aug. 5, the Gold Jacket Dinner on Aug. 6 and the Centennial Class of 2020 Enshrinement on Aug. 7. If Philip Rivers and Frank Gore are going to be in the HOF (which they will) it's hard to keep out any player who played a long time and accumulated stats. The NHL has the same problem now where accumulators from the 80's are all being inducted despite never being one of the best at their position. When Jerome Bettis was inducted, I knew that trend would grow.

Dang man. I thought much, much better of you.
Being on Raiders boards has negatively impacted your knowledge of the game, so I'll give you a pass on this one. Let's compare:

Cherry - .55 pro bowls/season
Woodson - .44 pro bowls/season

Cherry - .27 all pro selections/season (in an era of Ronnie Lott and Kenny Easley)
Woodson - .22 all pro selections/season

Cherry - 4.5 interceptions/season (rises to 4.8 if you account for the two strike-shortened seasons that Cherry played in)
Woodson - 3.6 interceptions/season

Other stats like tackles and sacks and passes defensed weren't gathered consistently during Cherry's era so we can't do a direct comparison.

Woodson played longer, so if your selection criteria prefers a less good player who accumulated stats through longevity over a greater player, then Woodson slightly beats Cherry. But the Hall of Fame isn't the Hall of Loiterers (other than the Bettis/Monk wing). It's supposed to be about the greatest players, and Cherry was clearly a greater player than Woodson. Cherry just didn't get the media attention because he played for a team that never had an offense and he was undrafted out of college. Anyone who saw him play would select him over Woodson.

Vacuum is a bad place to post stats man.

How many years are we talking here? Total PB/AP, Superbowl wins, superbowls played in? How about forced fumbles and total TD's by a defensive player? You going to try and say they didn't track TD's as well?

Cherry picking, :-), stats is no way to make your case man.

On no objective level is Cherry a better player over time than Woodson.

Cherry had 4-6 really good years, and sacks were tracked from 1982, so your arugument here is totally invalid.

Just Chuck's time in Green Bay tops your boy Cherry. Hell, if Chuck never leaves the Raiders, he probably isn't a HOF player. Going to Green Bay saved his career.

ETA: Cherry had Lewis (himself an all time great) on the other side his entire career, so teams couldn't just avoid him like they did Chuck for large parts of his time in Oakland.
