Media Center>Hellboy reboot
The Franchise 01:42 PM 01-12-2018
Didn't see this anywhere. Supposed to be released in 2019. Directed by Neil Marshall (The Descent), and David Harbour (Stranger Things) is going to be Hellboy. Dude is getting jacked for this movie too.

Milla Jovovich will play the main villain, the Blood Queen, reports Deadline. The character seems to be based on Nimue, a.k.a. "Queen of Blood" and "Lady of the Lake," who first appeared in the Hellboy comic books in 2008’s “The Wild Hunt” storyline, depicted as a powerful witch who lived during the time of King Arthur who betrayed her ally Merlin, reaping a reign of terror. However, threatened by her volatility, other witches came together to stop her, cutting her body into pieces and hiding the segments around the world to prevent her reconstitution. Flash forward to the present day and some demonic meddling eventually fulfills that calamity, making the evil Blood Queen Hellboy’s problem.

If my memory serves, the comic book ending is just Hellboy wandering about the afterlife being quite dead. A little dark for the end of the cinematic universe, IMO.

That said, I was pleasantly surprised by the trailer. Ian McShane is pretty badass and while I'm an unabashed John Hurt fanboy...he dead. So if I were gonna pick someone to replace him, it might well have been McShane.

They kept the trailer more lighthearted than I expected. I was worried from the first shots that this would try to be another 'gritty, realistic reboot' and those are just damn played out. Especially for source material that is just goofy to begin with.

I'll probably rent it. That's more than I'd have said a month or so ago.

So in looking at that trailer, it looks like they rebooted it to make an R rated version? Lots of cursing and gore in it.

I mean I guess I don't know what else I can expect when it's openly and obviously a re-boot.

But they're walking over a LOT of the same ground as the first 2 in terms of themes here. I guess it's just awfully soon for a re-boot in my eyes.

I wouldn't have minded this as a sequel with these same players, but as cool as this looks, it sure seems repetitive in a lot of ways.

Hellboy without Perlman is like Sopranos without Gandolfini. It will be so obvious that it's someone else sitting in the big chair that it just won't work.

Full discosure: I am also Ian Mcshaned out almost as much as I am Samuel L. Jacksoned out. Both are the exact same guy in everything they are in.
Pulp Fiction was great, Deadwood was great. Then they just kept going.

The guy playing Hellboy kinds sounds like he's doing a Sylvester Stallone impression.

As I feared. 11% on 19 reviews so far on RT. One review said it is one of the worst comic book movies ever.

Skipping this... should've never rebooted it.

Sandwiched in-between Shazam and Endgame + plus getting destroyed by critics ? This is going to bomb so fucking hard . I am still pretty baffled that the studio thought this would be a good idea to reboot . Its not like Hellboy was some phenomenal box office hit either . It was more of a cult hit.
