Greg Holland's highest WAR was 3.1 and he pitched in 3 more games than Minor pitched.
I know he was a pretty good prospect and was pretty damn good before his last season with the Braves. We sign him to a 2 year deal and according to spotrac KC declines a $10 million option. It makes no sense, he came back, had his best year ever and was basically Greg Holland, but we decline the option. Now he has the 2nd highest WAR in the majors and is by far the best pitcher in the majors this year.

Why didn't we just sign him to an extension? Was he against it? Was it because Dayton gave Ian Kennedy too much money? It'd be nice to have him in the starting rotation. God, just think of the haul we could get this year if we had signed him to a 3-4 year deal. He would have been fairly cheap and be under contract this year, next year, and potentially the year after.

It was 10 million mutual option. Both sides had to agree to it. Minor wanted to be a starter. [Reply]

But he's not over rated, he's ranked 88th in WAR which puts him in the top 20% of players and if he was stealing bases like he normally does instead of getting caught, then his WAR is probably close to 3. He leads the league in hits and total bases. Led the league in hits and steals last year and he plays a million positions. So how is that not extremely valuable? [Reply]

That's an oversimplification. Why would Minor take a $10 million option for one year when he can go into the free agent market and get a guaranteed multi-year deal? Especially when he was 30 years old and coming off his first season in 3 years? He would have been crazy to accept that option with his injury history, and risk not getting a long term deal.
Honestly I don't think Dayton would have offered him a long-term contract either way, but there was no way he was going to do it at the time because we were waiting on Eric Hosmer to decide what he wanted to do. [Reply]
Sad part is since Soler didn't touch the ball it wasn't an error, so these are all earned runs for Keller even though they probably shouldn't be. [Reply]
