Sheesh, Veach is getting compared to Al Davis now...

Teams would unsuccessfully try to dismiss those deals as market anomalies in contract negotiations with the agents. It remains to be seen whether teams will attempt to take a similar tact with Watkins' contract. The deal could be the bane of every team's existence in negotiations with highly productive or number-one wide receivers over the next couple of years unless Watkins starts living up the potential that made him a top-five pick in the 2014 NFL draft.

Yep, pretty silly- it is not like he signed a career backup QB to an insane stop-gap contract or anything.

Tyreek Hill-rookie contract 2 more years
Kareem Hunt-rookie contract 3 more years
Pat Mahomes-rookie contract 3 more years w/ 5th year option

The Chiefs can afford to pay for someone they want. If Elway didn’t draft a bust 1st rd QB, he would have had $18 million to play with this spring. Instead he had to use that $18 million to fix his epic draft miss.

The irony every time KnowMo brings this back up is absolutely hilarious.

No one is scared of your older WRs anymore. When is the last time they did much of anything against KC? When Peyton was there?

And no, none of your corners can shut Hill or Watkins down. Not even a little bit. :-)
Kelce has 3 straight 100+ yard games on Denver’s defense. They can’t stop him. Now add Hill and Watkins.

They are going to be forced to play zone every single play bc they can’t afford to play man coverage.

I just believe that the Chiefs would've been better off saving that money for a rainy day (Hill, Fuller, Jones, and Ragland are eligible for contract extensions in 2019). I really don't like paying non-elite players elite money. It's why I was against signing Cousins and rip on Olivier Vernon's contract. I don't even like Von Miller making as much as he does...

Unless they're a legit, franchise QB players rarely live up to these mega contracts. Has Justin Houston and Eric Berry lived up to their contract? At least they showed some elite production before they got paid, and neither of them have the injury history of Sammy.

That being said, I think Andy Reid has a good plan for Watkins, and if he stays healthy, he should have a good year. I'm not expecting him to have 1,300 yards or anything but 900-1,100 wouldn't shock me.

Keenum is the 19th highest paid QB in the league, not a bad price for the 7th highest rated QB in 2017 (Keenum was 2nd in Total QBR btw).

Watkins signing makes all the sense in the world. Clearly there were other bidders, hence the price. Same for Keesum, looks like a discount because--not a lot of bidding going on.

Mahomes is coming into this year with Watkins on one side, Hill on other other, Hunt behind him and Kelce tearing up the middle. All while having Reid drawing up the offense. I can't think of an instance like that where a young QB gets rolling with that level of speed, talent and coaching all lined up at once.

If Mahomes is who we think he will be once he gets paid they're going to have to rely on more young guys, so this is probably the most talent he'll ever have around him in KC over the next 2 years.

And it's why Keesum won't have much talent around him, cause his highest paid backup QB in the league contract has priced Denver out of the market for elite offensive weapons.

Not bad if he is the 7th highest rated quarterback in 2018(he won't be). But when he turns out to be barely better than Semen, you will realize that it's way too much.

Imagine if Paxton Lynch worked out and allowed Elway to use $18 million this Spring. How much better would your team be if they were able to use that money to sign 3-4 quality FA’s?

That's all he's got. "Nyeh, the Chiefs overpaid Watkins by about 2 million annually." Its better than trying to convince himself that Kareem Hunt was the 6th or 7th best back taken out of his class, I guess.

Watkins was a solid signing by KC, he'll fit in very well there with the new direction of the passing attack. Anyone that argues differently is just ignoring reality because of the logo.

Will KC become an unstoppable offensive juggernaut? That remains to be seen... bright future though.

Matt Cassel was a top 5 QB in 2008 according to total yards and QBR

Then he went to a bad Chiefs team and tanked.

Expect the same from Keenum

Gotta take advantage of that rookie contract when you have the chance, much like Philly and Seattle recently did to win Super Bowls.

If we have a respectable defense at all, I expect the SB window to be wide open the next three years.
