Nzoner's Game Room>50 Beers to Try Before You Die
NewChief 06:18 AM 04-24-2010
Thought the beer snobs here might like this article (and probably critique the hell out of it).

(CBS) You've heard of "100 Bottles of Beer on the Wall"?

How about 50 to try before you die?!
Spoiler!

Crooked Stave has been in Missouri for probably 3 years now. I'm not sure how much the Shelton guys (distributor) get to Springfield, but it's been plentiful in COMO, StL and KC for a bit.

Eh. Yeah.. it hasn't made it down to the Springfield/Joplin area, then.

Hot take. I don't give a shit about releases/whales anymore. There are more than a dozen breweries within an hour of me that produce high quality beer that I can get in various formats (growlers, crowlers, bottles/cans).

I rarely go to the liquor store anymore.

I still go to the store, but that's because its more convenient. I drink more local/regional beer than anything else by far, though. Unless there's something from out of town that just really interests me and is new to me (usually NEIPAs or Saisons), my regular drinkers are all local.

The only one I still sort of care about is BCS, but even that's been on thin ice the past few years because of the Black Friday bullshit... if it was limited here, I wouldn't even go out of my way for that with all the other great seasonal and year round selection.

What whales get released around here anyway other than a few in St. Louis?

There are very few beers going through regular release at retail that I would consider whales; maybe some of the lambics.

Crooked Stave has been available in Joplin for probably 6 months now.

Well damnit! Why isn't it getting down to Macadoodle's at the border then? :-):-)

I've been looking for 2 weeks here in STL and nothing...

Until today, when I stopped at a grocery store I don't normally shop at on the way home from an appointment.

Unfortunately, they only had one four-pack left. Sorry!

*and WTF does this shit cost $13 in KC too?

That's true. The definition of a whale changes every 3 months now.

I'll admit, I just cracked one a few minutes ago and I'd probably buy another couple of four-packs if I could find it again.

Thankfully, my favorite beer retails for about half that. I only pay that much for something really special usually a Buffalo Bayou bomber of some sort and that only about once or twice a year.

Very likely but didn't look for that one. I'll give it a shot though as I loved this one.

Thanks.

The breweries around here seem to be on a blood orange ale kick, which is disappointing. It doesn't go good with beer at least none of the ones I have tried work.

Tart cherry works wonders in beer though.
