You cant fire everyone at once but you have to do something.
They have a metric that tracks a teams performance on close plays at the plate and this year the Cardinals were actually a tick better than average.
Now I'm not sure that makes him a good 3b coach, but I'm not convinced he was a bad one either. It's just a completely thankless job in that nobody remembers when you send a runner home and he gets there just ahead of the tag. And nobody cares if you give someone the go sign and they weren't hustling hard to the bag so they try to speed back up and fuck it up.
Maloney wasn't anywhere near the top 5 in terms of damaging impact on this club. Even if he wasn't good at his job (and maybe he wasn't), it's mattered very little in the grand scheme of things.
Certainly not enough to call a press conference to fire him while John Mabry and Mike Matheny get to keep their jobs.
It's bush league. And that doesn't surprise me coming from an organization that called a player up only to tell him while he was driving to the ballpark that he should turn around and drive back to Memphis because they changed their mind.
This team and its leadership is a festering pile of shit from the top to the bottom. They need to fire every motherfucking one of these complacent assholes. [Reply]

I watched too many guys get sent and thrown out by 15ft this year to agree with that. It was little league bad.
And look I want Mabry gone (the most obvious and doable in my opinion), Matheny gone, the popcorn vender gone and the beer vender gone.
But like I said you cant do it all at once in the middle of the season.
Hard to complain they aren't doing anything then complain when they do something.
And we all know Matheny isn't getting canned unless they go on to lose 100 games and that may not be enough. [Reply]

Just exactly why the fuck can't you?
Gabe Kapler's still reading scouting reports somewhere and if they have some hitting guru in A ball that can evidently fix Grichuk, they can damn sure double his pay and convince him to put on a Cardinals uni for a few months.
Yes, they absolutely CAN do it all at once. They just lack the will to do so.
I can absolutely complain about activity for activity's sake. This will change precisely nothing. They're still helmed by an idiot and taught by a guy that was a shitty hitter at the big league level but is hell-bent on making everyone he teaches the same kind of inside out POS hitter he was.
I don't give a shit about firing Maloney - it means precisely dick. This is pure PR and nothing more. They want to give the impression of doing something without having to actually make a difficult decision. [Reply]
Seriously - how many homeruns will Matt Adams need to hit elsewhere before we think "huh...maybe this Mabry guy is a fucking idiot afterall..."
Or will we need to see another 1/2 dozen hitters get progressively worse at this level and need to be sent to the minors to 'unwind' (i.e. get proper coaching) first?
This gutless, arrogant, complacent organization has driven me around the bend. [Reply]

Fuck baby steps. Refusal to take aggressive action of any sort over the last 3 years is what got us here.
The moves made today are the equivalent of doing a paint job on a car that has a scrape on its front door while the alternator and engine need to be replaced. [Reply]
