Who knows.

A few weeks ago, they assumed it would trickle through the various plants and regions of the country and other plants would be able to make up for the plants that were down. It made sense because many plants can dial up production 10-15% when needed without much trouble. When the pack moved inventory forward it was obvious things weren't going as planned. The reality is it's hitting in a much tighter time frame than they expected and all across the board with plants all over the place operating at 50% of regular production.

I highly doubt we see voluntary widespread total shut downs all at the same time. Shit would hit the fan so hard people would go nuts. These companies are making record profits right now. Some are paying $2/hour bonuses, other's are up to $6/hour, and some have initiated $600 attendance bonuses. If they can roll, they will roll as soon and as hard as they can.

It'll be the states themselves who step in and say, "lock this shit down", if it happens. We all better hope each state's governor fully understands the consequences of that decision if the time comes.

I don't think having massive amounts of people traveling across the country and congregating in large groups is a good idea no.

Very little of this info is making headlines beyond the groups who stand to lose massive amounts of money soon.
I have a friend that has a SIL with a private hog operation. He is currently sitting with 5000 hogs ready for market but can't find any buyers. I've heard rumors of farmers selling hogs out of their barn for $90.

Article is behind a wall, but retailers are definitely having to scramble for inventory and use supply chains they have never used before.

Things are tight, but no one wants this info out in the media for obvious reasons.

Go to your local subway and ask for roast beef. A lot of them will not have it as their supplier was one of the first to cut them off and divert that inventory to a grocery chain. No one will panic over subway making you eat turkey, but an empty beef case in the grocery store scares the sheep.

A few states have proposals to allow the retail purchase of meat from local butchers ready to put up for discussion. It's basically an emergency deregulation. It'll be like pissing in the wind, but maybe it would help in some regions.

Not uncommon. Independents, both beef and pork, are absolutely fucked and at the will of the buyers. Company iso weans are being euthanized to slow the flow, but they're 4 months too late to really affect the chain.

A lot of people will go broke while the companies are making record profits/hd.
