Every time I hear Alison Krauss’ Down to the River to Pray, I always feel that much closer to Heaven. Anything you folks listen to that does the same thing?

The father of Gospel music Tom Dorsey. Who started out as just a blues piano player playing with The Guitar Wizard Tampa Red, he was Georgia Tom Dorsey then.

His pre Gospel days.

Blind Wilie Johnson was a Texan and actually came before Dorsey, he is a very important in both the blues and gospel world, Eric Clapton has called him the greatest slide man ever, ah....debatable.

Johnson had three outstanding/important works, the haunting Dark Was The Night, Cold Was The Ground , the above John The Revelator , and Soul Of A Man.

Yep, a cover.....

In 1942 Alan Lomax who worked for the Library of Congress was roaming the south looking to record anyone with some talent, so he comes upon a black church in Clarksdale Mississippi.....................
