Evidently MLB prepared a new offer.

We'll see what comes of it. The MLBPA shouldn't have to walk away from the table and have Manfred chase them out the dealership so he can agree to waive the clear coat protection charge.

MLB had the spotlight to themselves for 2-3 months and all they managed to do is piss of hardcore fans while bringing exactly ZERO new fans into the fold.

I'm just gobsmacked by how poorly this was handled.

60 games full prorated is what I read with potential for more.

Breaking: MLB and players union are closing in on an agreement to play the 2020 season, via players. Deal expected to be for prorated pay and include expanded playoffs.

Owners really wanted those expanded playoffs. Guessing that since the MLBPA walked away and told them to mandate the schedule they freaked about not being able to get the extra revenue.

Really starting to take shape.

60 games. Expanded playoffs. Full prorated salaries.

They really should expand the rosters too. Thatd give some guys in the upper minors a chance to get some valuable playing time. Also id have the minor league teams playing against each other or have 5 division with the minor league affiliates of 6 teams and have them play each other.

Seems like it's all but a done deal. Got dates set for pretty much everything.

If you're looking at a 60 game season and a 16 team playoff field, about 24 of those teams are going to spend most of those 60 games with the belief they have a shot to sneak in. Moreover, only 60 games doesn't give much time for separation so nobody can really blow 100 ABs on a rookie that isn't ready yet.

I don't think teams would do much to really take advantage of the expanded rosters unless they were just openly tanking.

And honestly, with no ticket revenue anyway - this would be a REALLY good year for it. If I'm the Royals and am stuck in the middle of the competitive cycle, I just eat shit for 60 games and try to get 1.1.

Rumor is they've also approved the DH in the National League for both 20 and 21. Given the CBA is up after that, it might mean the end of pitchers hitting for good.

Well, at least there’s a small bit of good out of this mess.

Mandating the DH permanently because of the circumstances is bullshit, IMHO.

Personally, I don't care for the idea of pitchers hitting because the tenet of the argument why they should is that there should be no specialization in baseball is bullshit too. There's already specialization in baseball where only a handful of guys are truly capable of playing every non-pitching position with defensive competency expected of a major league caliber player and there's already the expectation one or two starters will be offensive liabilities but are too important defensively not to play.

But for over a hundred years almost half of the franchises in the MLB have played without the DH and it doesn't feel right that the BeerVirus forces the rule change upon them.

What are we gonna do without all the extra strategy?
