Nzoner's Game Room>Best drafts of all time
O.city 08:26 AM 11-21-2020
I know it’s still early in this, but I was bored and looking back at draft classes.

Is there an argument that the 2017 draft is the best draft of all time?

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/2017_NFL_Draft

Look thru that list.

1983:

Elway
Dickerson
Jim Covert
Bruce Matthews
Jim Kelly
Marino
Darrell Green
Richard Dent

All hall of famers.

Add in really good players like Albert Lewis, Charles Mann, Dave Duerson, Mark Clayton, Leonard Marshall, Ken O'Brien, and Chris Hinton

Imagine if we would’ve taken Kittle instead of Jehu Chesson. We would be unstoppable with that 2 TE set.

I was pissed that we took Derrick over Broderick, being a Husker fan.

I was cool with it shortly afterwards though.

Yeah, it's wild how the draft can vary. 2011 was great while 2009 was very weak.

I really wanted Barry Sanders.

I definitely wanted Derrick over Broderick because I hated Nebraska & thought Derrick was a better Cornelius Bennett at Bama.

It would be like Gronk and Hernandez all over again...without the homicides.

Forget that you have a few future hall of famers. The depth is absurd. Tons of players who are top 5 or 10 at their position. How many drafts can brag that:

Qb: Watson, mahomes
Rb: dalvin, cmc, kamara
Te: kittle
Ol: ramczyk
Cb: tredavious white, lattimore,
S: budda, humphries, adams
De/olb: Garrett, watt

Even guys like fournette and haason reddick came out of nowhere for strong 2020 seasons. I think about 3/4 of the top 20 amounted to something with over half being studs. One hell of a draft.

If only we could see into the future, but still, I would take the 2017 draft just as it was.

At #10 Patrick Mahomes QB Texas Tech
At #59 Tanoh Kpassagnon DE Villanova - Could have had Ju Ju Smith-Schuster WR USC or Alvin Kamara RB Tennessee. Also consider there are other draft picks and those players are no longer in NFL.
At #85 Kareem Hunt RB Toledo - That's not the draft's fault
At #140 Jehu Chesson WR Michigan Could have had Marlon Mack RB South Florida, George Kittle TE Iowa

I am still happy with this draft.

different thing, but wasn't there one draft in which The Steelers basically drafted almost all of the core players in their dynasty run in the 70's?

*1974-Steelers drafted Stallworth, Lambert, Swann, and Mike Webster.

That's a hell of a draft. 4 gold jackets.
