Nzoner's Game Room>Off Season Lets Talk Guns, Part 2
HonestChieffan 11:58 AM 01-23-2011
Been a while since we had a guns n' ammo discussion.

Some of you are AR shooters Im sure. Im looking at a Colt 6920. Will be my first AR. Picked up a Glock this fall and really enjoy shooting it. Any feedback on that weapon?

Anyone else been in a buy/sell/trade mood with hardware?

Yes - a shotgun, loaded with buckshot - is a formidable weapon, but it's also a pain in the ass to maneuver (if you have to leave the room). Walls get in the way...you may have to swing it from one shoulder to the next, etc.

Will it do the job? You bet your hiney. But it a split second timing situation, it does present its own problems - as mentioned above. I fondly recall my Dad - who was a huge believer in shotguns loaded with Buck shot.

Of course, he violated the law by cutting the barrels on his double barreled 12 gauge from ?18 inches? down to like 12 inches. But, back in those days - folks didn't get "quite" as ape-shit crazy over things like that...... :-)

My "security blanket" of choice? A Springfield Armory 1911 -or- a Sig Sauer P220 (.45 also). Personal choice to be sure, but for me, they work. One or the other ALWAYS sits on my night stand. We have no children at home - just me and the Wife.

I love my P220.

Today’s shotguns can come with collapsible stocks and pistol grips to help overall control of them. Switching shoulders is not a big deal if you practice it even a little bit. Taking a corner and using the pie method should be used no matter what type of gun you prefer. You never get close enough to a corner to allow someone to reach around and push your gun or barrel wide to allow them to gain the advantage on you.

That being said everyone needs to use what they are most comfortable with and practice using it. To rule a gun out because they are too long or you have to switch shoulders is a silly way to eliminate great guns from the options that are out there. I have a pistol beside my bed along with an AR chambered in 300BLK with subsonic rounds so they don’t over penetrate.

ehh, its all the same shit for the most part.

the only thing that costs more is the brace vs a stock, and those can be had with a lower build kit super cheap at palmetto state armory. like, stupid cheap. $129 total with the lower parts kit and the brace shown in my picture.

$280 for a Springfield XD 9mm. That's a pretty damned good deal. Normally these go for around $400 or more.

That's a hell of a deal. It's cheaper than a used Glock.

Shipping time, 3-4 years.

They actually did a decent job on my lower last summer. Only a couple weeks wait.

Just took delivery of my "new" EDC pistol - a Sig P365 (pocket pistol) - unbelievable...small as all get out and holds 10 in the mag (9mm) and 1 in the tube...

Damn fine pistol....gonna take it out and fire a hundred or so rounds through her.... :-)

I picked up a "new" special order Mossberg 500 Tactical today from my local dealer and when I got it home realized there is no limiting plug. These by law have to come from the factory with one don't they? Does this mean this gun is used?
