So some folks are talking up David Long, who has measurables for day but didn't flash on film. You can maybe take him in the 2nd a little more comfortably knowing that you have a year to get him up to speed.
Otherwise you might have had to settle for a guy that you know has more ability to play now (DeAndre Baker) but perhaps lacks the elite upside that someone like Long or Layne might have.
Still definitely a need, but maybe this frees you up to take a bigger swing with the pick on an upside candidate rather than a more floor-based guy.
I agree. I'm not sold on a CB at #29 when we have a couple holes to fill. Do we need another CB? Hell yes, but I think there are 2nd rounders like Long out there that will prove more valuable in the long run. [Reply]

Exactly. Granted, she's also a lot more experienced. So is Susan Slusser, who covers the A's for the SF Chronicle. Both of them are terrific reporters.
That is still an incredibly weak depth chart. It's not necessarily a necessity at 29, but a cornerback absolutely should be taken no later than the 2nd round. It's a 1 year deal, we need some young talent at the position unless you want to go into 2020 with the same gaping hole at corner. [Reply]
Is it true that this guy has a superpower that allows him to turn his head and track the ball once or twice a season? That's about all we need to improve upon Nelson, Gaines, Scandrick, etc....... [Reply]
