With the Oscars tomorrow and all the hoopla over Bohemian Rhapsody thought it'd be appropriate to have a thread on movies about real life musicians and or singers and which ones you like the most.

Here's a list from 2016 of Rolling Stone's 30 best music biopics

These two movies made me a new fan of the music/artists.

Bohemian Rhapsody
Walk the Line

No other movies have accomplished this feat, or I was already a big fan of the music before I watched the movie.

Ray

Jamie Foxx was hauntingly great in that film.

Yeah shame Busey scrambled his brain against the curb riding helmetless on his Harley. Dude did a great job on that movie. For me I Walk the Line was as good as it gets for me being a huge JC fan.

Even though it's technically fictional but based on a mix of actual events, I feel this thread wouldn't be complete without a shout out to Almost Famous. Can't think of a better movie on the subject of rock bands.

I remember buying the soundtrack on record when The Buddy Holly Story came out, because I had never seen or found any live Buddy Holly music. Gary Busey was close to the real thing as you could be. I remembered he was on SNL and played a couple of live tunes, he was just like in the movies. I had also bought the movie on VHS tape, so I guess you could say that was my favorite for about 30 years.

I did like Walk the Line, but I have a hard time watching it now because Joaquin Phoenix has turned out to be so weird. Bohemian Rapsody is right up there now with Buddy Holly.

damn fine film (though I thought it was a mockumentary, not biopic).

"Control" (about Joy Division and Ian Curtis) was very well done.

Another mockumentary that was outstanding (if you like the manchester sound movement up to the acid rave period)........24 hour Party People.

Hell yeah. That was excellent... and depressing as hell.

Might be stretching it a bit to call it a music biopic as Sid couldn't play at all but "Sid and Nancy" was another great but depressing movie.
