Media Center>Which Great Movie Do You Actually Hate?
Frazod 04:55 PM 02-21-2019
This video popped up on my YouTube feed. Seemed like a good basis for a thread.

The five films discussed in the video, panned by various Brits to the general disdain of other Brits off camera, are The Shining, Forrest Gump, the Lord of the Rings Trilogy, Gone With the Wind and The Blair Witch Project.

I think the first three guys are mostly nuts, wholeheartedly agree regarding GWTW, and argue that Blair Witch was never great in the first place.

So what great movie(s) do you hate? I'll chime my picks in later.

Haha **** that movie in the ass and **** Ben Affleck’s reeruned brother. My wife made me watch that movie in theatres and I can honestly say it’s the worst movie I’ve ever paid to see in a theater.

There’s no real star power in it, it’s depressing as shit and Casey Affleck ****ing sucks. Most pissed off I’ve ever been after seeing a movie.

Haven’t let my wife live that down since.
Awful flick.

I saw it for free in college and still felt like I overpaid.

Spending two hours watching an emotionally dead man is not entertaining.

The Big Lebowski

For more classic choices, 2001: A Space Odyssey

As a group, pretty much any musical.

Some newer movies that I hated....

Pig. And I like Nic Cage mostly.
The new Suicide Squad.
Ghostbusters Afterlife. Why was Carrie Coon and Paul Rudd not the primary focus of the movie? Didn't care about the kids at all.

2001 was great, when it came out in 1968. I saw it as a kid when it came around a second time to theaters in the early 70's. (Which films did in the age before VHS and HBO.)

But yea, it is not a classic film and hasn't aged well.

Lebowski is fun but I can understand why not everyone would like it.

I would say that most musicals I'm not keen on, but I would say that about your typical Hollywood release also.

But a good musical can be great. Oh well, each to their own.

Agreed on both counts. Never understood the fascination with Big Leblowski. At all.

And I was just bitching about what an incoherent, horribly acted mess 2001 was a couple of days ago.

Fight Club: Guessed the twist from the moment Tyler Durden showed up since he doesn't interact with anybody but Ed Norton.

The Big Lebowski is also a weird ass movie. I love some of the characters but the writing was beyond awful.

Apocalypse Now was boring

The Graduate was extremely overrated
Dunno how I missed this, but this is almost precisely the 4 movies I would characterize as LEAST overrated.

I can understand how some might not like them, everyone has their own tastes in entertainment, but I would submit each are very high in my personal opinion on achieving what they sought to do.

Not saying this to argue merit, more to observe the near perfect synchrony of movies you single out for disdain and movies I'd pick out for praise.

Clockwork Orange I have the least personal affection for. I appreciate it, but it's not 'close to my heart' if that makes sense.

But if I were listing the best Drama, Comedy and overall movie of all time, I'm pretty sure those last three would be on the list at least until the bitter end.

You might be the only person in history that guessed that plot without reading about it first then.

Awww. So sorry that this beloved Christmas classic, this perfectly preserved bit of Americana, this wonderful expression of visual art...doesn't have enough titties and 'splosions for you. I'm sure there will be another Fast And Furious sequel coming out soon for you to sink your teeth into.
