What’s crazy is that it’s basically just constantly off and on snowing, I suppose because of how cold it is. We are used to snow being more like a passing storm, but this is just sort of a consistent thing that comes and goes for days now without seeming like an actual snow storm. [Reply]

Yes, and they are, but not enough to meet demand and/or consumption. Extreme cold affects generation in various ways, either the ability to actually generate or not being able to get the normal amount of fuel used to generate like normal. It depends on the method(s) used. Wind generation, for example, doesn't like below freezing temperatures and freezing rain.
Looking at their generation sources, 46% is coal generation. 29% natural gas. And, 9% wind. [Reply]
