We all have varying opinions about the impact of this, the numbers, etc. We will all never agree with each other. But we can all keep it civil.

Thanks!

The beach/trail closures don't really make sense at this stage.

I actually agree, that the outside stuff is just dumb. If you're at the beach, outside, your risk is just miniscule.

It's the messaging I'm talking about. I don't even have a problem saying the protests were warranted for racial disparity. But you can't be for one and not the other then get upset when people check out.
They make a huge difference in spread. As has been pointed out many times, the masks help you to some degree - possibly by limiting the initial dose - which many studies have suggested could impact the eventual infection. But masks definitely slow the spread to others from you.

There's a reason why Japan only has 1000 deaths - as one of the most densely-populated countries on earth. Similar for Taiwan, S. Korea (after their initial blowup), Vietnam.

Beaches can't vote or make campaign contributions potential to congregate

What can't you do today that was normal before, albeit masked up?
I can't go to a movie, to a bar, to see a ball game.
My daughter can't go to school for her Senior year.
Yeah, totally normal

Congregating outdoors in a place that usually gets a nice breeze is where you should be. Do the beaches get beyond packed in the summer?

You are prohibited from those activities even with a mask? Or, they've just been prohibited altogether?

They're city beaches so yeah they can be more narrow than traditional coastal beaches but we've reopened indoor dining in an earlier phase.

Bars still not allowed to have indoor seating.
Obviously, no fans at MLB, and our minor league team had it's season canceled.
Movie theatres still closed in Virginia.
No in person learning in the state until at least mid October.
Our Governor is a complete dipshit.

Take out Richmond and a 40 mile radius around DC, and this state would be great.

Hows that going for Japan now though?

I can show you guys some research done in the dental field on the efficacy of masking, the biggest isn't isn't the mask TBH. People don't know how to wear them.

It never did.

They panicked. Everyone acted like this virus would act completely alien compared to any virus we've ever encountered.

It doesn't.

Considering they have 125 million people - mostly packed into ultra-dense cities, Japan is still doing massively better than us or most other places who aren't taking it seriously.

Missouri's numbers have improved some since the backlog was cleared, but they still don't look good.

We've been at a steady incline for quite some time now but hospitalizations have held fairly steady. Deaths haven't increased a lot either.

The Gov is supposed to speak at 3pm today. We'll see what info, if any, he has to share.
