Nzoner's Game Room>Off Season Lets Talk Guns, Part 2
HonestChieffan 11:58 AM 01-23-2011
Been a while since we had a guns n' ammo discussion.

Some of you are AR shooters Im sure. Im looking at a Colt 6920. Will be my first AR. Picked up a Glock this fall and really enjoy shooting it. Any feedback on that weapon?

Anyone else been in a buy/sell/trade mood with hardware?

It's funny, but every time I look at my 365 - I get a warm feeling in the "nether regions" - if you know what I mean :-)

Looking at getting a Sig P320-M18. What dealer in the KC area would you recommend?

Hope you all have your ammo and guns stocked up by now, I have a feeling things are about to get crazy. My guess is, panic buying is going to whip out any remaining stock.

Yeah anyone wanting an AR or AK better "pull the trigger" asap, because the right to own one is going bye-bye for 4 years

Learn to reload.

Considering the cost of ammo down the road, you'll save what you spend on equipment in around 1,000 rds.

Yeah, right now they are. You can get projectiles and powder still, though it's somewhat overpriced.

But these prices on ammo are going to remain high for at least a couple three years, same as last time. Materials though will become more available over the next six months probably. Again, based on the last couple times this happened.

So assuming things repeat in a similar fashion, the public will be paying $800+ for manufactured ammo for at least the next two to three years, and even at the inflated prices for materials, you will be able to make ammo for less than half of that. As you can get all the equipment/materials you need to load 1000 rds of .233 rem for about $600 or so, you're going to be able to recoup your costs in about 1,000 to 1,500 rds. And once prices go back down, close to before COVID, you'll still be saving $$ rolling your own vs. buying, just it'll be a savings of $100-$200 instead of $400-$500 or whatever.

Plus, once you have the equipment and materials you're never subject to these shortages or required to pay these outrageous prices ever again. And all of your materials are non-perishable, properly stored. I know guys that have used primers and powder that's more than 20 years old.

The only way it doesn't make sense is if you shoot less than 500 or so rds every couple years. About 17 mags worth. So unless you're shooting less than 8 mags/year, it makes more sense to reload your own for the next 3 years, then stock up on both manufactured ammo and materials when the prices return to pre-COVID levels until the next panic happens.

So I may be looking to sell a firearm or two. What is the best way to do that privately? I sold a Sig long gun a few years back and used Armslist but they moved to a paid membership model and I'm not sure I want to do that. Anyone sold/bought privately recently?

Depends on your state laws. Does the sale cross state lines?

What are you wanting to sell?

I would want to keep it in state. I'd be selling an AR so I don't imagine I'd have a problem finding someone fairly close (?)

I don't know the logistics on selling it, but double the price and start there. AR's are ridiculous.

I'm sorry to hear your AR fell to the bottom of a lake and you were never able to complete this anticipated transaction, thereby rendering you unable to provide the name of the person to whom you would have sold it had it not fallen out of the boat.
