Nzoner's Game Room>****The Tyreek Hill Thread***
Dante84 01:14 PM 04-30-2016
With the 165th pick, in the 5th round.

Nutt said that Toub felt Hill was like Devin Hester.

Hmmm... I'd call that a combo of 2 and 3. You're definitely not alone, but only sports fandom can lead to this kind of rationalization. I guess I'm guilty of it as much as anyone.

1. Hasn't seen the son, ever
2. Hasn't been financially supportive, despite a signing bonus and weekly game check.
3. Hasn't spoken about the incident or shown any remorse.
4. Hasn't become a spokesperson, locally or nationally, for Domestic Abuse.
5. In one of his Q & A's, he said that he "needs to choose his friends better" as a result of the altercation.

The more that's written about him, the less I like him and it's pretty well known that I absolutely fucking hated the selection, regardless of his athletic ability.

Understandable, but I'm not arguing any of that. I will say that continuing to support the team despite your feelings weakens your ability to sit in judgement on other fans. I despise the act he committed. I hope that he has turned a corner and has the ability to change. I realize there's a good chance he hasn't. I'm comfortable with a jury's out approach. New info (like the info I was seeking in this thread) can definitely change my feelings on it. This lets me enjoy the teams and his success. Rationalization? Sure. But no more than you, despite what snap judgement you've made about my, or anyone else's character.

It's interesting to me how these things are working out.

Domestic violence is something I've never had to deal with in my life, so I don't or can't comment there, but everyone has to bring this up when the guy does this, yet when Sean Smith makes a good play, we don't talk about DUI's or other stuff.

Social issues are interesting to see how they work out to me.

And when Von Miller gets a sack, no one ever mentions the five people who were stabbed to death in a restaurant that was then set on fire.

Yeah, and again, I'm not trying to undermine what anyone has done.

It's just interesting to me as a society how we prioritize things.

Of course DUIs are terrible, but there are not the same level of intent to harm as what Tyreek did. I have friends that have gotten DUIs. They aren't proud of it and they are lucky something terrible didn't happen, but it's just not the same principle I don't think.

OMG, this place is like watching a soap opera sometimes. Why in the world do some of you get worked up about something that has absolutely no effect on your lives?? I couldn't care less what he did and if he has or has not paid child support. I couldn't care less what happened to Jon Benet Ramsey, and I really don't care if OJ killed Nicole. Do you know why? Because I don't know any of those people personally. What hey did or did not do has no bearing on my life whatsoever and it is none of my business. Guess what? It's none of yours either!! GIve it a rest you bunch of judgmental assholes!!

I agree, just interesting to me.

I've had a couple family members killed due to DD so I'm more passionate about that than DV.

If you get drunk and get behind the wheel of a car......you have intent to harm.....whether you think you do or not.

Well put. I am amazed at the number of sinless people around here who are throwing stones so liberally.

I think it's because sports is so emotional. It's difficult for most people to root for athletes that they see as terrible people. I mean, if the team is an avatar for the city, and it ostensibly is meant to represent it's people, I understand being hung up on this.

No idea on the Jonbenet Ramsey thing.

Really not defending DUIs here. I don't know about intent, but the level of carelessness and self-absorption is staggering, no doubt. Shouldn't be a free pass, just saying that people can relate to that as a terrible mistake. Most people can't even imagine doing what Tyreek did.
