Nzoner's Game Room>2019 Free agency Thread
O.city 03:24 PM 02-05-2019
We don't really have one of these yet, so figured we could use this as a place to discuss potential free agent acquisitions and what we would like to look for them to bring in.

If any of you guys are interested, heres a good place to do some research.

I expect Houston to be released early into the new league year, while Berry will be a post June 1st designation, dependant on his medicals...
I’m curious where you got that from? My understanding is that Houston pre-June cut saves the team roughly $8mm whereas post-June cut saves $14mm.

Use the link in the OP.

Pre June 1st: $7.1 million dead money, $14 million cap savings
Post June 1st: $5.6 million dead money, $15.5 million cap savings

That is a $1.5 million difference. I presume the Chiefs eat it so they can use the $14 million for the start of free agency.

Thanks! Wow, if that’s correct, it would make sense to cut bait prior to free agency if there is a target or 2 they like. Provides more options early in free agency.

Report: Cowboys plan to move on from David Irving

The Cowboys have no plans to re-sign defensive lineman David Irving, David Moore of the Dallas Morning News reports.

Irving played only two games last season, seeing the field for 56 snaps. He had one sack and two quarterback pressures.

He was diagnosed with a high-ankle sprain during the Oct. 21 game against Washington and never played again despite remaining on the roster. Irving was not a regular participant in his rehab, Moore reports.

Still, the Cowboys paid Irving $2.9 million in 2018 as a restricted free agent. He becomes an unrestricted free agent next month.

Irving, 25, has served suspensions in back-to-back seasons. He opened the 2018 season with a four-game suspension for violation of the NFL’s substance abuse policy after violating the PED policy in 2017.

He also missed all of the offseason program and training camp dealing with off the field issues, including a custody battle for his daughter.

The Cowboys, though, continued to be mesmerized by Irving’s talent. He had seven sacks in eight games in 2017 after a 2016 game against the Packers when he earned NFC defensive player of the week honors for a sack, three forced fumbles, a fumble recovery and a pass breakup in only 19 snaps.

We had this guy and let him go, do we take a chance on him? He is talented and nasty!

I think you can designate 2 players for post June 1st. Wouldn't that mean you can use the money saved right away to sign players?

I think you guys may end up disappointed

I’m guessing they restructure or try to with Houston, tag ford, keep berry and sign one decent sized free agent deal

The amount of space that could be created by getting rid of Houston/ Berry and Ford must be weighing on Veach's mind I'm sure. Is it possible to trade Houston by any chance? Would there be many takers with that contract?

Also heard on a podcast that the Texans could be interested In stepping off Clowney, would he be a good fit?

Stoked about Kpass opportunity this coming year.
