Nzoner's Game Room>2019 Free agency Thread
O.city 03:24 PM 02-05-2019
We don't really have one of these yet, so figured we could use this as a place to discuss potential free agent acquisitions and what we would like to look for them to bring in.

If any of you guys are interested, heres a good place to do some research.

thats quite a ways off. and it happened one time out of 19 games...
If he had a shot in one of 19 he might have more shots throughout a 20yr career.

A good GM should get 2 or 3 good players in this draft considering how many picks we have in the top 200.
Ok, call your shot with this. Define 2 or 3 good players. What do you consider a good player?

Tag him in '19, draft a replacement either this year or next because no, they should not sign him long term regardless of 2019's outcome.
A long-term deal can be written to protect the team against injuries.

A long-term deal gives them more room to salvage 2019 with other free agents in the event that he gets hurt.

A long-term deal allows them to potentially get a good 2020 and 2021 out of him if he gets hurt in 2019.

Tagging him and keeping him has only 2 outcomes - he repeats 2018 or it's a disaster. If he gets hurt, 2019 is yet another wasted year. Pretty soon, Mahomes will be getting a contract and we will be talking about what could have been because this team was noodling around with brokedicks.

Why would Ford or his agent take any deal that protects against injury for the team? He'll get $19M per year minimum on the market with no strings attached.

Ballard or Dorsey could give him $20M without blinking.

But if he's so injury prone as you say, wouldn't it be more risky to sink a larger amount of money over a longer period into him? I mean, the likelihood he gets hurt in 19 wouldn't be much different than 20 or 21?

I don't think he's really a long term answer. i don't think most people do.
The next tag would be at DE $, too. That’s more.

Who are your pass rushers then? Assuming Houston won't restructure.

Speaks at SDE and move Jones to WDE.

I'd like to tag and trade him to Tampa. They're changing to a 34 and need pass rushers.

I wouldn't like to trade him to the Colts or the Browns. That's who we're gonna have to beat in the next year or two.

It doesn't matter. I'm not ever going to bet my season on a guy that can't stay healthy, regardless of what he does when he is.

Equivocation doesn't work because 0 still equals 0. See also: Eric Berry.

Part of what makes Jones special IMO is his ability to win quick from the interior, much like Donald. I think you lose a lot if you consistently ask him to win on the edge.

I doubt they're gonna move Jones outside very often. Andy likes pressure up the middle.
