NFL odds: After Sunday night, Patrick Mahomes is now the overwhelming NFL MVP favorite

Frank Schwab 2 hrs ago

We can cease and desist with any debate about someone other than Patrick Mahomes being the NFL MVP favorite.

You’ll hear people argue that Kyler Murray, Russell Wilson, Alvin Kamara or anyone else should be “in the conversation,” but the only real talk is that the Kansas City Chiefs quarterback is the overwhelming favorite until further notice. Everyone else is vying for NFL offensive player of the year, though Mahomes should probably win that too.

Sunday night’s heroics, leading a game-winning drive over the Las Vegas Raiders everyone knew was coming, solidified Mahomes’ position. He’s the best player in football and he’s having a phenomenal year.

The odds at BetMGM reflect that.

Mahomes is -118 to win MVP at BetMGM. Next on the list is Wilson at +350. Aaron Rodgers is +550 and nobody else is less than 12-to-1.

But the MVP award is heavily stat based and KC has taken its foot off the gas too often in the last few weeks.

It’s mostly stat based.

If Rodgers plays vs the Bears & Mahomes sits...it’s a given that Rodgers wins.

It would take a Bucc's level performance for him to lose it now IMO. The Bears have a playoff spot to play for so it's possible I suppose.

Maybe Pat was trying to play his way out of contention yesterday. :-)

We have the best record in the NFL and in franchise history but KC can play the underdog role well. I would like to see playoff shock and awe to remind them who we have.

Down 4 with under four minutes to play, Mahomes takes the team down the field for the game winning TD. Throws for 278 with 2 TD's and 1 INT.

There is a chance that GB fucks it up but LeFleur and Rodgers know how important for them the #1 spot is, having all games played in GB under yesterday's condtion would gave them a huge advantage.

Not against Brady, the best cold weather QB ever. Now maybe some of Brady’s teammates would have trouble with it.

I considered Tampa as the strongest team in the NFC but Arians and Brady don’t really seem to align much, I still see them ahead of the Saints because I don’t see Brees being able to overcome the obstacles and beat Green Bay at their own turf, though I have the feeling in the end neither KC or Green Bay will be in the SB.

Brees is pretty screwed in the cold weather. I would not bet against Russell Wilson on the other hand. Seahawks gave the Packers a very strong run for their money at Lambeau in the playoffs last year.

The Seahawks D is improving at the right time of the season and with Wilson at QB they will be a tough game for anyone in the NFC.

Packers with home field advantage throughout look like the worthy favourites to be the NFC rep in the Super Bowl.

Get real. Mahomes performed at MVP levels against a playoff teams unlike AR

You can’t dismiss Mahomes performed better against common teams

5-0 playoff teams on the road

Rodgers 1-2 on the road against playoff teams

Mahomes 5-0 common teams

Rodgers 4–1 with less then MVP stats

So It’s ok for Rodgers not to perform like a MVP against playoff teams?
