If you're a golfer with name cache but you're not winning anymore, I would take the money and run.

Not sure how they bring more guys over now. It seems to have stopped for the moment.

I'd love to see one tourney with the pros having to find their own golf balls when they hit.

I'd rather have people find my ball for me when I hit in the rough.

I’d rather have another tradition. Maybe snacking or napping.

You should probably be familiar with Joaquin Niemann as he's a borderline top 10 player in the world right now. Tyrell Hatton is easily a top 20 guy as well and just finished top 10 at the Masters. Talor Gooch was also a top 30 guy before he left and he's won 3 times on LIV since then.

They have a whole bunch of other guys who could also easily be classified as top 50 players (Reed, Oosthuizen, Ancer, Meronk, Burmester) considering where they were ranked when they left and that isn't even getting into the aging veterans who can still win on a good week (DJ and Sergio stand out in that regard).

It might even be argued that LIV has a third of the top 50 players in the world at this point (and the split is going to become even more palpable when they inevitably get guys like Rory or Hovland next). Any non-signature PGAT event doesn't have fields anywhere close to as good as this.

No disrespect but I don’t get your logic that the LIV tour has better players.

The PGA has 32 of the top 50. 14 of the top 20. You mention guys like Gootch,Ancer,Neumann, and Hatton who have 5 wins in 520 tournaments on the PGA tour. They have way more combined wins now on LIV. That alone shows me the competition is weaker. Sergio hasn’t been competitive on the PGA tour since his Masters win in 2017. Dustin really hasn’t been much on the PGA tour since 2020.
We will just have to disagree on who has the better players. I just don’t see it.
What I really hate is the 54 holes no cut. All that does is allow the lesser players more of an opportunity to stick around with no pressure and guaranteed money. It’s like MLB going to 7 innings or the NFL going to 3 quarters. Golf was special because you had to earn your money to stay on tour.
But either way, unless they eventually join together I think golf will eventually lose viewership and that’s not good for the game.

This is an absolutely absurd take.

It’s not a take. They have a third of the top 50 players in the world at this point (just look at the OWGR of the guys when they grabbed them) and they’re gonna continue buying off other top players off the tour until the PGAT completes the merger.

I didn’t say anywhere that LIV had better players. I said they have enough good players now that their events are superior to any non-signature PGAT event (look no further than the 3 events the PGAT has prior to the Masters in the Valspar, Houston, and Texas Opens with awful fields with very few quality players). Those events resemble something closer to a lesser qualifying tour at this point with guys ranked from 50-200. It is no mystery why ratings are falling for those.

And 54 holes just doesn’t bother me at all. Are you (or anybody else) really watching golf on a Friday during a non-major championship? Because I’m not. I agree on the cut, though, that does add a level of competition that LIV doesn’t have.

If you have never played a round with fore caddies, you should because it's fantastic.

Back in NJ when I belonged to a country club, I would use them often. Walking the course without a bag and having someone up ahead spotting every tee shot is perfection. Raking the bunkers, handing you clubs, cleaning your clubs, helping you read putts with local knowledge and telling you best place to aim for off the tee based on your skill makes it much easier to play 18 holes.

Very relaxing and more engaging as a group.

LIV may have a cut one day if they get enough golfers. Not enough guys yet.

I agree with a poster here who said some of these lesser PGA events have no top talent in them and 99% of the guys are no names. They suck.

So many former draws on the PGA Tour have stopped winning and golf has a new group of guys without a real dominant guy except Scheffler.

Spieth has sucked, Justin Thomas has sucked and quite a few others.

Had the pleasure of playing with them at Winged Foot in a charity outing years ago put on by the NY Giants.
That was an incredible day, flew in the night before, rented a car to get to the course the next morning, shot a 78, had one drink after the round and flew back home that afternoon.

Never played with a caddie. Walked most of my golf up to 40 years old probably and then a couple years where I played with the same people we used carts but my buddy didn't mind driving so I'd put my clubs on the cart but walk. I liked that and probably played my best golf doing that. Fun times. These days my body has betrayed me and it's been all cart golf.

I was spotting balls once when the MO Sr Amateur was at our course. I was 16 years old I think. I was on the 18th hole and the head pro calls me up to the pro shop to caddie which by those days that wasn't really a thing. So I go up to the pro shop and find out I'm not just caddying i'm caddying double. I'd never caddied for anyone before so what deal it was to caddy double for two SR golfers. Got paid $8.00 from each player. I thought I did alright since I only lost one 4 iron .
