I'd feel a whole lot better about giving Carlos Santana a two-year deal if he were 32-33, rather than 35-36. Seems likely to me that this and the Minor deal will hold the Royals back in 2022, which is the year they should be aiming for.

I thought we'd roll a 2 man OF. Let's get weird

I don't think the Santana signing implies he will be playing 1B every night. While he's likely the main 1B, Dozier will likely see some time both there and in RF along with Soler fielding RF 2-3 times a week when Santana/Salvy DH's. This signing keeps the parts moving around the diamond, depending on the matchups, IMO. Whit will still play plenty of 2B, I'm guessing. From a lineup perspective, this was the exact player they said they lacked last year. O'Hearn and McBroom seem expendable w/ this signing.

Here's the current 2021 WAR projections from @fangraphs. Good way to see who has big needs or strengths, where. I rounded to the nearest WAR for readability. Not hard to find Mike Trout, is it? And hoo boy, do Story/Arenado stand out in Colorado. https://t.co/2verfMsGdZ pic.twitter.com/08owaIezIj

If I recall correctly, Santana can be streaky (he always seemed to be breaking out of a slump against us :-)). With the short season, streaky can look worse than it was.

Taylor's probably gonna play, because defense. Dayton's got his elite defensive middle of the field now. Salvy, Lopez, Mondesi and Taylor. But he could also be a defensive replacement if his offense is super terrible and Lee pushes him out.

The other issue would be if Cordero can't stay healthy. But Cordero just turned 26 and has monster power and speed. They'll probably keep giving him chances because his potential is so high and he's entering the age where some guys figure it out.

Let’s not forget about David Dahl. I did yesterday.

Would be great if the Mahomes connection can help there, as Dahl has more upside than anyone else they could add. He’s also still young and has 3 years of arb control left.

I’ve always thought we should add Omaha and NW Arkansas
