Media Center>Time again for a new phone
Dartgod 08:28 PM 07-14-2013
So I'm eligible to upgrade my cell phone again August 1st. I currently have a Samsung Galaxy S2 through Sprint and was ready to get the S4. Now I see that LG is set to release their Optimus G2 sometime in August.

http://www.engadget.com/2013/07/09/lg-optimus-g2-leak/

I've never considered LG, but I'm intrigued by what I've read.

Has anyone else looked at this and is it worth waiting another month or so for the LG?

Also, does anyone in the KC area have any experience with Sprint's LTE 4G? Is coverage still spotty?

Which is why AMOLED is just around the corner. The ability to turn off pixels is a huge resource saver- especially for all these large screen phones / phablets.

Screen illumination is by far the biggest energy user / battery hog. If you go with AMOLED with an inverted scheme / "blackout", the battery savings will be GIGANTIC.

Another + is way better picture, because you get true blacks since the pixel is actually turned off versus generating a black color.

Has anyone considered the OnePlus One

http://oneplus.net/one

I'll be upgrading from my Galaxy Nexus sometime later this fall and if the Nexus 6 is a lot more expensive than this thing I might give it a shot. My concern is the 1+1 being too big. I could always give it to the wife and take her Nexus 5.

So what is the best phone out there, that is AT LEAST the size of the Note 3 and 4? I don't know much about the other phones, are they the same size, better hardware?

That has certainly been a huge failure.

Not really. I have the new LG G3. Had the Note 3. Battery life seems the same so far.

:-)

The G3 has an updated chip in it compared to the Note 3.

Compare the G3 to the HTC One M8 that has a 400 mAh smaller battery, same processor, but 1080p.

The M8 blows it out of the water.

The Note 3 has a 3200 mAh, and G3 has a 3000. Plus, the Note 3 screen is .2" larger. Seems to me the Note 3 should have better battery life but it really does not.

Nah, it has virtually equal battery life with a less efficient processor.

It doesn't take a rocket scientist to realize a higher resolution screen takes more power to run.

The G3 lags behind the S5 and M8 by 20% in battery life because it has a 1440p screen instead of a 1080p screen and you would never notice the difference between the two. 1440p is a useless technology on a screen so small.

Yeah, I do feel LG has overhyped the resolution.

I do love the phone, other than the fact that it's not mhl compatible. I'll need a Slimport for HDTV connectivity.

I like HTC phones in terms of hardware build and sound quality but battery life sucks. Always

Why on earth would they make it like that?

No clue.

The Slimport is actually cheaper than the mhl.
