Nzoner's Game Room>D. Williams thread
chop 06:42 PM 01-17-2021
D. Williams did a good job today making Cleveland have to respect the run. Solid game for him so I made a thread just for him. I think he had 6 yard a carry average.

He looked more comfortable with his assignments against the Browns but he is not the type of running back that can take nothing and turn it into something. His scouting report matches up perfectly with what he's shown the past 2 seasons:

Strengths
Built like a bruiser and runs with good physicality
Sturdy base absorbs hits and maintains balance
Doesn't get cute
Makes decisions early and lives with them
Keeps pads square to line of scrimmage and slides from gap to gap without losing momentum when searching for the best running lane
Has good lateral jump cut to elude initial tackle attempts at the line of scrimmage
Runs under his pads with good forward lean near the goal line
Has size to be utilized as a short yardage option
Very comfortable handling swing passes and check downs and showed an ability to extend drives out of the backfield
Highly respected teammate and named a team MVP this season.

Weaknesses:
Doesn't feel running lanes developing, needs to see it
Burst through line of scrimmage is below average
Doesn't have the feet and instincts to sting moves together
Doesn't search for late cuts and may not be able to make them anyway
Doesn't generate as many yards after contacts as teams might like
Won't get many unexpected yards
Slow to gather and cut downhill when asked to run an outside track
Needs downhill play calls
Top heavy running style limits ability to make sharp backside cuts

------------

His weaknesses are why he went undrafted.

Mccoy was a much better runner just carried the ball like a hot potato.

You can't see actual 'game speed' in a combine setting regardless of what their 40 time is. Some backs have it and some don't. Darrell has it and I have seen it several times especially last year against Baltimore when he iced the game.

Darrel can catch, too. I mean, I wouldn't make him the starter or anything but I've been a fan since he iced the Ravens game a couple of years ago.

Bayless must have had $$ on the Browns. Not surprising though.:-)

He’s doing well to maximize his market value for FA, I’m sure we’re going to lose him and honestly I wouldn’t want to bring him back for a veteran contract anyways. He’s coming off a strong game in the playoffs which will definitely help his cause but at the end of the day we can get someone of equal or greater value day 3 of the draft.

Fuck no to paying for RB3s, he’ll get paid more elsewhere anyways.

I’d keep Sherman over Thompson lol ,I bet Andy would to

Bell's running style does work with an offensive line that doesn't block worth a damn.
With a good line you can wait for a hole. With our line you better hit the hole if you see any daylight.

Bell has 63 carries and 4.0ypc average.

He's doing just fine behind this line. He was never going to be a world beater and before you go on about how great he was in Pittsburgh, the dude averages 4.1ypc for his entire career.

He's a volume back, he always has been. Most of them are, BTW. And since no back here gets bulk carries, he was never going to light the world on fire.

EB said that Darrel's nickname is "Dirty" from LSU but didn't know why.
