Nzoner's Game Room>The RUN game
UChieffyBugger 11:26 AM 10-09-2019
Should we be concerned about this right now? Damien can have his moments but as each game goes by you realise he's not one to be grinding out yards. Mccoy has flashed but again he's not best running between the tackles and the coach's don't seem to trust Darwin at the moment despite looking impressive in pre-season. So that leaves Darrel Williams and I was very surprised that he didn't get many touches on Sunday after he performed so well in the the two previous games!!..like WTF is Andy thinking? The offense when healthy is brilliant but come playoff time and in the seasons ahead we're gonna need balance. It's games like Sunday that Kareem's demise really hurts us.

It doesn't matter who you throw back there when you have inconsistent oline play. Teams have been moving ally defenders down which prevents the jet sweeps/outside zone schemes Andy likes to run.

I remember Duece (small), Westbrook (small). Who else? I don’t remember any big body.
Maybe that’s where the “finesse” title comes from?
Hunt was s little bit of everything which is why he was so effective for us.

Duce was a huge RB

Considering Reid's choices at RB over the years, it seems fairly obvious that his preference is a Marcus Allen kind of back. About 6 ft or less, around 200-210 lbs., speedy with good hands.

Or I guess the prototypical West Coast RB would be Ricky Watters or Roger Craig.

Or like Kareem Hunt...

Kareem likely was a happy accident. I think Spencer Ware was supposed to be a starting RB for the season that year, but got hurt. Hunt slid in as a back-up who simply surprised everyone on the coaching staff, IIRC.

But yeah, if we could find another Hunt type of RB, it would be great.

He was no happy accident. He was targeted and drafted. That preseason he showed he could play. It's true that Ward was the starter, but Hunt would have seen action that year regardless.

Okay, I'll take your word for it concerning Hunt. I never paid any attention to him until after he became the starter. But he did basically fall into that West Coast RB envelope that I described above.

Andy shouldn't have traded away Carlos Hyde. He seems to always trade away the power type backs. Having all 3-down backs limits your running game.

I wanted to trade for one of the OT's available and move fisher in to LG. I think that would have helped our run game a lot.

Run game was atrocious today.
McCoy, Ware, Thompson.

Can’t rely on any of them.

I interior Oline blocking is terrible. I'm not sure why we keep trying to run between the tackles. I would think attacking the edges would be a better idea.

A year on from when I started this thread Veach MUST fix the o-line without question. However, our running game still remains poor to average compared to other run games in the league and this must be addressed moving forward imo. It not only would stress the hell out of defenses and give us a better chance in the redzone, but it would also help control the game and protect Pat much better too. Ceh is good but he's not gonna carry a run-game on his own imo...he needs a physical partner who can grind out tough yards and hit a home run (and no I don't believe the solution is either of the Williams). Teams are gonna double Reek and Kelce like crazy next year...with a good run-game we could make teams pay for such a strategy.

CEH averaged 7.1 yards per carry last night.

The Chiefs will never be a grind it out run team as long as Reid and Mahomes are together. It’s just not who Andy Is.

Andy has to adapt!!..we need a run game that can frighten teams away from doubling Ty and Trav otherwiae we will be in this same spot next year imo. We saw what a good RB in this offense can do when we had Kareem!!...it's not a coincidence that our offense hasn't hit those heights since he left.
