Sony, of course, already has its own vast film and television empire, and has bought other movie studios before - most notably Colombia Pictures, home to Spider-Man and Ghostbusters. It's interesting to look at Paramount's franchises in that light, and imagine how PlayStation could elevate one of those in a similar way to how it has championed Spider-Man.
As a fan of Star Trek... I am both concerned and hopeful. The Spiderverse and Spiderman movies have been phenomenal but at the same time they keep pumping out dogshit Marvel related movies.
The thing I am most hopeful for is that Sony, being a video game producer, having the rights to a major franchise like Trek means that there is a damn good chance that we finally get a game based on Trek that is actually worth the time and money.
